I assume you're referring to the scout scope? I've never used a scout scope before. Is it significantly inferior to a traditionally placed scope? It sounds like you're planning on getting a top rail for scope mount above the action anyways?

I had an M1A Scout years ago. My wife actually bought it for me. (And she occasionally reminds me of the fact that I am so cold and heartless that I sold the gun that she bought me.) I ran mine with a Burris 2.5x intermediate eye relief scope in the traditional "scout" set-up. While I moved away from the platform, I still think the scout rifle idea is sound. It did not excel at longer shots, but it felt very comfortable and confidence-inspiring on the closer shots. I loved the gun once I was bedded down and shooting. I just hated it when I had to run with it. That walnut stock sure was pretty....and it really made you long for an opportunity to butt stroke somebody.

    Get those pics up.

Part of me wants a walnut stock for mine, but at the same time I intend to spend some time in the field with it and being in North Carolina I think a polymer stock will be beneficial.

Besides, I can scratch the Walnut stock itch with my M1.

Speaking of the M1, I can't help but compare it to my Scout Squad and I have to say the Scout Squad feels...cheaper? I'm not sure if that's the right term. Definitely lighter. But the metal used to make the action, charging handle, and bolt feels significantly...lower grade...or something, than the metal used on the M1.

Even the sound of the charging handle / op rod reciprocating is high pitched and tinny compared to that of the M1. Maybe nothing but a difference in manufacturing.
