All,
After 1.5 years of praying, searching, dreaming, praying, planning, researching, implementing, training, leading, and praying about our Safety and Security ministry at my church, our Executive Pastor just placed the policy and procedures manual, plans, and job descriptions of this ministry into the hands of the Elders. The Elders, in short, have said "we want a security team, but we don't want them to be armed...with anything." I know some of us are supposed to be armed. The chasm between my thoughts on this subject and what the Elders have asked for, lies in the fact that our Executive Pastor has only given the Elders what I like to call the "hardware" of this ministry. He has not given them the "HEARTware" I feel is required for them to be able to make a wise decision on this VERY important subject. I need your prayers. I will contact one of our Elders (I have a very close relationship with him) today, and attempt to get some time with the entire "Executive Team," (Elders, pastors, and team leaders) very soon to do some vision casting and heart sharing with them. Prayers for my walk, too...I'm being attacked from many different angles right now (my thought life has been in the gutter recently). His Name be praised, Kodthree |

The elders are wrong. Period.
If it were me, I'd carry my gun as a free Christian American should do and have nothing to do with the denutted "security team". This feel-good compromise is from the enemy. If they can show a biblical reference against weaponry, I'll eat my computer.

Sorry to say that but I thought only Liberal Jews were stupid, but I am seeing more and more Christians acting the same way.

Amen, Gabe. How could they be right about this subject...they don't have the vision...YET! I pray it doesn't take a painful "learning experience" for our leadership to get it. I'm still torn up about this, though. My job is to protect my family, which is also now my church.

Sometimes it is not the message from the pulpit that shows where the church leaderships' heart is. If they can't trust you with an earthly thing.....
But they can trust a pagan police man to come in and save the congregation! (for example)

Concealed is concealed.
That said, I wouldn't expect anything but grief from trying to change the minds of the powers that be in your church, just a lot more scrutiny from the hoplophobes. I've carried at every service for years without any comments, and I've spotted others in our medium sized congregation who are carrying as well, but it's never been a topic of conversation. In your case, I think I'd be looking for a different church ministry to be involved with while still doing my part to "guard the sheep." Kids’ ministries come to mind. A more stealthy approach might be to start taking people to the range on a regular basis; sort of an informal men's ministries thing. Male bonding and all that. Get some of those reluctant elders to go. Changing the culture of your church through a subtle backdoor effort might work better in the long run than a direct or confrontational appeal.

Fellas,
God's church where I serve is just awesome: we have several, church-wide rifle sight-in days, hunting groups, a pistol league/Bible study at a nearby range...I need your prayers because the evil one is getting on my case, making me want to quit this fight. Our Elders are wise and God-fearing men, and they've been placed in charge of this church (under God, of course) over me. I WILL FIGHT this battle, I will not turn and run to any other church, "perfect" or otherwise. Funny aside: Our lead Pastor said "We, as Christians, are sometimes guilty of looking over the fence and the lush, beautiful, green grass that is over there. Did you ever stop to think that the grass might be lush and green because its over a sewer?" I'm not looking for a perfect church, because it doesn't exist. If it did, I couldn't attend there, either! Kod EDIT: I'm not just a "Junior Member" any more! How many more posts until I become "Senior?" |

Don't be! I wonder if they remember where Jesus told his deciples to sell their coats and go and buy swords? I agree, the elders are wrong. It seems that a lot of people have this idea that it is somehow sinful to bring a gun into church. Would they rather the entire congregation be defenseless if/when something happens? |
