Default Ten Critical Tactical Handgun Skills

In Ayoob's "The Complete Book of Handguns" of 2006, page 50, he list Ten Critical Tactical Handgun Skills. All this has to do with real carry gear and full power loads. The comments in () are mine.

1. Safe and certian handling skills.
(under pressure of course.)
2. Be able to hit under pressure.
(and that is what competion helps you do.)
3. Be able to take your opponets weapon-and keep yours from being taken.
(and be able to fight with your hands.)
4. Know how to shoot while moving.
(and I might add hit moving targets at same time!)
5. Sharpen your strong-hand-only shooting skills.
(I say amen to that!)
6. Know how to perform weak-hand only.
(ditto!)
7. Be able to 'quick-draw' from all your real-deal gear.
(I'd have it no other way.)
8. Be able to holster your weapon smoothly, one-handed only, by feel.
9. Be able to reload (or in some clases, simply load) your gun quickly and positivly.
10. Be able to draw and shoot from awkward positions.
(another postive you get from competition like IDPA.)

11. Be able to perform RTB without thinking.
12. Be able to transition smoothly to a secondary weapon if primary fails and no time for extensive clearance drill.
13. Be able to shoot with/without sights through the various zones, transitioning from pointshooting to sighted as range/circumstance dictates.

How about:
Be able to ignore incoming fire, while you are concentrating on your own 'outgoing' fire.
Something that is helped by being 'down range' for certain practises.
We have had a thread with reference this.
It is a little controversial.
Regards,
Anthony.

I've found in the (limited) FOF I've done with sims and airsoft that I am now much better at ignoring "incoming" and concentrating on my "outgoing", YMMV.

I can well imagine.
I look forward to having the chance to do this up there. - Airsoft is banned here.

But I also think that to stand beside a target, while a trusted friend/shooter fires into the target is very helpfull too.
One will hear the shots from the 'wrong end' of the gun, and perhaps even feel some sort of muzzle blast.
Regards,
Anthony.
