Thread: FAL Scope

Have you looked into the Leupold VX 6? I just got one and it is very nice. It also comes with a cerificate to get one of their elevation dials engraved with the yardages for your combo.

I ran out of glass somewhere between 800 and 900 , but was still able to get 3 out of 10 with good holdovers at 1000. (Target was standard steel IPSIC type target) No problem being 100% for our standard of headshots out to 100 and torso shots out to 600. My rifle and glass are better than I am. Jefe's instruction on how to do it was key. Doping 30 mph gusts of wind is an art.
    Which ACOG did you use?

i recommend the vortex viper pst 1-4x24. very fast acquisition on 1x, yet is a capable 400-600 yard scope. center dot is very precise allowing precision shooting. Illumination is adjustable for night vision and bright sunlight. with the illumination off, the reticle etchings can be used also. 30 mm tube allows lots of light and very clear picture.

The SUIT I bought for my son's FAL didn't get a box of ammo through the rifle before the rivets in the mount (t-bar to cover rivets) were working loose. Had them tightened up and they did it again.

I put the SUIT on an AR15 and liked it so well I bought another one for my other AR15. The prices are just climbing higher and higher on them and the condition of them keeps getting worse so I may not ever buy another one, but I'll sure keep the ones I have.

I bought some small machine screws/lock nuts to try to "fix" the FAL mount but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

In my experience the SUIT is great for low light shooting as well. I can see back into the shadows along the fence lines and into the edge of the woods with the SUIT when I can't see things with my bare/unaided eyes.

If you use it, remember that when you sight it in your group should be about 1/2" to the right of your point of aim. That way it'll be about 1/2" left all the way out. If you sight it in to hit point of aim the farther out you go the more the bullets hit to the left of your point of aim. Been there, done that. While it was neat shooting those dime sized groups at 25 yds. with the AR15 it kind of threw me at first when my groups where about 6 to 8 inches left of point of aim at 300 yds.

    Good luck.

I am currently running a Weaver 1-3X Variable on my FAL with good success. The 1X seems to truly BE a 1X. Simple duplex crosshairs....no fancy widgets or glow in the dark stuff. Simple, clear glass, not terribly expensive, and it works. For my next purchase, I am considering the Leupold 1.5-4X Mark AR. That will either be going on a lightweight bolt action GPR or get swapped out with the Weaver.

Leupold VX R Patrol. 1.25-4. Nice but a little pricey.

literature says it is 3.5 power, but next to my other 4 power models , I can see no difference.

A Mil-Dot scope with an offset or top mounted red dot. It's been the best solution on my GPR FAL, you don't have to sacrifice your long range game or CQB AND you have two different zeros. My red dot is zero'ed at 25y, the scope at 100y.
