First off I will say that I am glad to see that us palm continues to be innovative. That being said, this has little use to me. I own a couple of 40 rnd mags. It is always hard to figure worth. Mag changes are not that hard to do, and with only 10-15 extra rounds over standard mags you are still going to be changing mags (if you actually have to pop of 45 rnds there may be a good chance that you might need more). Would these be better, probably, but It all depends on how fat they end up being. The 40s are long which sucks, but if these end up being too fat they could have there own issues with handleing as well. In the end, it is too early to tell. Still, it is probably worth buying one or two.

Just saying that the value for that price isn't there for me. To equip one rifle with roughly 300 rounds of magazine real estate runs you the same price as a quality ak or enough to equip two rifles with the same amount of mag space from the same company with $100 still in your pocket. I could see maybe one per rifle as an initial contact mag. If the cost were only double that of the 30 rounders then my opinion would be different. But in the end it's just that, my opinion. Just like yours...

These will be nice for the RPK- getting you prone lower than a 40, and not rattling like the drums.

There is value in the 45 Rd mag. Us palm wouldn't have produced them. I bet it's a military contract first.

Still waiting on the PSL 20 rounders. As soon as those happen my PSL is moving to GPR duty.

If "cheap" is the only criteria, this is probably not the forum for you...may I suggest the Walmart AK Store...or one of those websites populated by welfare recipients that throw afghan rifles together in their shed with screws and duct tape.

On the magazine...I haven't seen it, but my understanding is that it is shorter than the standard 30 rounder. A small drum of sorts. I can see the best use for these will be for the in-gun magazine in the car or by the bed. I do not see someone buying five as their carry load however.

I will be at SHOT and I am sure I will have one to play hard with.

On the 5.45x39 and other magazines...the US Palm admin has told me emphatically and without reservation that they will not be making a 5.45 magazine in the forseeable future. You can add the PSL, the Saiga, (the rifles usually have more problems than the lack of magazines), and all those other miscellaneous combloc systems out there.

There is simply too much capital involved in making a magazine with too little ROCC (return on commited capital) to do so for these rifles, many owners of which will squeeze a penny until Lincoln craps and his entrails follow suit. I am sure OTOH, that if these affluent owners pooled their money and committed in cash to buy 5,000 polymer magazines, for whichever system, it could be made to happen.

I'm more interested to simply see this thing. I have no use for 7.62 magazines. As we had a huge discussion on why USP won't be making 5.45x39 magazines, they didn't poo-poo the idea of specialty 5.45x39 magazines (we discussed twenty rounders, 45+ rounds etc.). But as Gabe said...there isn't much of a market. I see the problem on every other site I visit which has a little AK nook. "Where can I get a quad rail for under $35?" etc. Unfortunately that is 90% of the AK market. Never willing to invest in proper gear.

I agree $100 is a bit steep...but I'd imagine they won't be selling nearly as many of these as the AK30's, so they need to recoup investment more aggressively. My philosophy has always been very simple: 45 rounder in the gun to start, backed up by 30's. I only own 3 45-rounder magazines...as it's not a primary go to magazine, and I don't own any RPK/RPDs etc. An extended magazine fills a number of roles:

    1) The trunk gun. If you have a rifle stashed in a vehicle, why not have the biggest single mag in it you can adequately manage?
    2) Bed gun. Again if you're not running an entire rig or set-up in your room, a rifle leaned against the wall with an additional 10-15 rounds is always nice.
    3) Support guns. As mentioned, in a team or heavy shoot situation (few of us will encounter), a guy with a bag full of 45 rounders will have more options when providing covering or sustained fire.
    4) Break contact magazine. If out patrolling or expecting serious trouble, why not start out with the 30-50% advantage in that initial fierce moment of shooting. Chances are the fight won't last more than a mag...but a bigger mag could be an advantage.

I think a lot of guys here will buy at least one --- especially if the quad stack (how fat is that in a 7.62!?) cuts the height to a normal AK30 height (my guess). Not a necessity, but definitely interesting.

Exactly my thoughts. I can see two ending up in my armory for sure.
