Default My review of 'Cowboys and Aliens(2011):

Steam Punkers won't like this film, but the rest of us will. Daniel Craig is believable as a cowboy in the pre-Leone 'Trilogy'-fashion. Harrison Ford is believable as a racist cattle baron, and Keith Carradine is believable as a western sheriff.

Set in 1873, The Aliens have invaded Earth for its gold. They are kidnapping humans for evil experimentation and the cowboys have to unite with the Indians to stop them. NO sex, a little gore,
and little profanity. Wee kids will be afraid. A 5 out of 6.

Thanks for the review. BTW, what is a "Steam Punk"?

I've never heard the term before either.

It's a comic book genre. Think 1890's with steam power taken to a very high level. It's got themes like Teddy Roosevelt as a super hero who fights aliens and other underworld creatures with his steam powered blaster pistols (attached to a backpack power pack).

Are there any spoilers I need to avoid, or is it safe to read other reviews?
It might be a week or two before I get to see it.

Thanks for the explanation. I have seen this term in regards to jewelry: "steam punk jewelry." So NOW I know from whence the term sprung.

I must disagree with the rest of us liking the film. While the actors mentioned above did a good job the movie itself was incredibly stupid. We had a highly anticipated screening of the movie here last night and after managing to last thru about 45 minutes people started walking out.
The plot was weak, the lines overwritten and the end completely predictable to the last detail.
Only a few of us stayed for the entire thing and as the credits rolled and the lights came on we all looked at one another going like WTF? I want my two hours back!

So no Olivia Wilde being naked? I may not see it then.... Lol
I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.....

While I personally don't see what people see in Olivia Wilde (no offense to anyone but I do find her....well, ordinary) the highlight of the movie was seeing her < SPOILER ALERT> coming out of a bonfire in the nude. The flames and smoke, however, covered all the important areas so really there was nothing to "see".

A little further explanation: Consider everything and every mechanism that we do today and think of how to do those things and have similar mechanisms that do the same thing, but with technology that more or less never made it out of the Age of Steam. Add fashions to match. It can also be thought of as 'Victorian England carried into at least the 20th century'. It's something like that.
