I would buy as many as I could get. I love the 74 platform but have the fear that importation of the mags could cease and there are currently no good US made mags for it.

I'd like some US made 30rd 5.45 magazines. I would like the floor plate to be removable though. I'd rather have removable floor plates for cleaning, and I can at least block the mags to be legal in a ban state, and restore them to original capacity for a free-state. The current US Palm magazines I can't block, and don't care for the US Palm 10rd mags since I can have 15rd mags here. If the floor plates aren't removable, I'll stick with the surplus mags and block them myself. Same thing goes for the current 7.62 magazines.
For he is God's servant for your good. But if you do evil, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is a servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the evildoer. Romans 13:4
I've e-mailed Magpul too. I'd love a Magpul AK-74 mag with a removable baseplate. If everyone started e-mailing or calling them, maybe they would make some. They are making shotgun stocks and other stuff, so they are always coming out with new stuff. Plus if there was a demand, maybe they would make furniture and who knows what else.
How much is everyone willing to spend, per mag,on the afformentioned mags?
Magpul (for example) mass produces their P-Mags, and though the AR mags obviously sell more, they are pretty reasonable. I think $20-$25 isn't bad for a new US-made AK-74 magazine. With the current election and buyers hoarding magazines and everything else, I'm sure they would sell a lot if they were available.
The steel inserts tend to complicate things. Initially, people would (more than likely) need to be willing to pay about $40 each. Within a year, if sales were steady, they could potentially drop to $30-$35. Within 5 years, prices could potentially drop as low as $25-$30. All of this would be dependent on strong support for the caliber. Unfortunately, the support just is not there yet. For many, the biggest selling point of the 5.45 is the cost of ammunition. I bought one because it looked like a pretty devastating little round... I really didn't care about the cost of ammunition. Many people do. Running cheap ammunition in expensive mags is a hard sell. There is nothing I would love to see more than US Palm 5.45 mags (and I would be willing to buy some at $40 each); but, I totally understand why they have no plans to do it. It just is not fiscally responsible at this time.
I forgot about the steel inserts and the metal tab on the back. The problem is you can still find new original AK-74 mags for under $40. Until the surplus dries up or the prices escalate due to supply and demand, it will be a hard sell. I bought the 5.45 because of the round being devastating, it has low recoil which is good for new shooters, women, teenagers and even the elderly. The major plus is that it's the cheapest centerfire rifle cartridge available.
There are too many AK owners that think Tapco magazines are okay, and aren't going to spend more on 10 magazines than what their rifle cost, if they even buy that many. I'm part of the "buy once, cry once" crowd, even if it means saving for one quality item rather than two that are cheaper. If lack of magazines are keeping people from investing in the 5.45 platform, at least my ammo purchases will continue to be cheap for a long time.![]()
