    Default Ruger Scout Rifle

If they had made it with FAL, M14 (or anything!) magazines I would be more interested. Taking the "wait and see" on this one. Anyone have a Ruger bolt already? Why don't I hear more about them?

    Thanks for that bae.

This is the first 'general purpose' bolt action rifle that I have seen for years that REALLY does interest me!

I had a Ruger back in the 80's.
    Great rifle.

Now if money comes in (hopefully,) next year, I will seriously consider buying one of these, and scrap (sell,) my plans to convert a military Mauser to a 'Scout'.

Just perfect for somebody like me, living where semi autos are almost ( difficult at the very least,) impossible to own (legally,) and I just don't have the range(s) to really make good use of a dedicated bolt action GSR.

Add several spare magazines, and I could do some great work with this rifle.

    I love it!
Looks like a modern 'Jungle Carbine'.
The Enfield Jungle Carbine was one of the rifles that Cooper based his 'Scout' rifle on.

Thanks once again for the update on this product.

    Regards,
    Anthony.

I like it as well. I've got several ruger centerfire bolt actions, and think very highly of all of them. This may not be the gun for everyone, but it will be THE gun for some. I'm sure it's well put together. No doubt some will not buy it just because of the Gunsite logo branded on the stock. That does seem kinda dumb of Ruger...

    Yes....dumb, due to predudices.

But dumber is to buy or not to buy, something because of an emblem.

    I could not care less.

If the rifle, handgun or shotgun has the name of a school/teacher on it that I don't really like, I might remove it or paint it over.....whatever!
Probably though, I'd just ignore it. (The emblem, - not the gun!)

    Anthony.

A friend of mine in the UK ran 'Practical Rifle' courses of fire with his original MK 5 Jungle Carbine, - just re-barrelled to .308 (for ammo reasons.)

He was an 'old boy' (compared to me in my 20's,) back then, (in his 50's,) but he kept up with most in the club, beating the majority of shooters with semi autos, - except the very few top gunners, all of course whom were armed with Match M1As, H&K G3s or the odd FAL etc.

The only real problem I see with .303 these days is that it is getting scarse (surplus,) I believe, and modern hunting ammo is no cheaper than buying .308 or .30-06 etc.

    Anthony.

Looks like a sweet rifle but a tad pricey...If someone would just make a damned stock to fit a Savage Scout that accepted M14/M1A/FAL mags...the Savage Scout is almost perfect and a lot cheaper, add Flash Suppressor and if it just took a standard issue mag...it would be friggin perfect...

The Ruger email boasts that this rifle weighs an incredibly light 7 ounces! They really took Cooper's principle to the hilt on this one! LOLZ

The proprietary mags aren't a detractor for me, unless they end up being just terrible, let's hope Ruger pulls this one off well. I like the concept, I'd be more apt to consider with maybe some JB Weld over the GS logo ^_^

I've got a Ruger 77 Ultralight .308 that I bought in 1985 and it weighs 6.0 pounds! They don't make that one anymore.

P.S. I didn't see that you mentioned ounces instead of pounds. The website says 7 pounds, anyway!
