Default I'm such an impulse shopper...

Well, lay-a-way-er, at least. Local shop had a PSL on the wall for an okay price (not the best I've seen, but the best I've seen locally). I fondled it for a few minutes then told the clerk I'd take it. He went in to the back room to get the box while I started on the paperwork, and he came out and told me that they had 4 more in the back, taped up in the box if I wanted one of those instead, but I wouldn't be able to open them to compare quality. The one I was looking at had beautiful furniture, straight sights, etc, but my gut told me to go with one of the boxed ones.

He put the one with my drool all over it back on the wall and grabbed a boxed one. We started talking about accessories and he told me, "Yeah, they come with 4 mags, sling, cleaning kit, etc." Then he got to thinking about it and decided to open the box. The PSL in the box looked even nicer, the rubber on the scope was better and there were seven (yes, SEVEN ) 10 round magazines in the box. He was floored (I wasn't upset, that's for sure :D) and said he'd never seen one come with that many mags.

If all goes well, I should be bringing her home either next payday or the one after. Now I just need to find a lefty friendly stock for it... :D:D

    What's that wrapped in newspaper??

    Lots'o mags!

    Yup - seven!

Stripped it down, and was happy to see that there wasn't much cosmoline.

    Except under the upper handguard:

Bolt and carrier were well oiled, gas tube was very clean, and the bore looked like a mirror.

All serial numbers matched (except for the mags, they all came from different guns) and the gun is in overall excellent condition.

I've already got an Ironwood Designs AK butt stock ordered (which I may or may not install an adjustable cheekrest on), as well as a bipod and mount.

BTW - per Matt at Ironwood, they expect to have a repro PSL stock available by the end of the month (possibly with an extended length of pull). Once they have the standard stock set up, he said they will be able to mirror the design for a left-handed skeletonized stock.

If all goes well, I'll be taking this and my M44 to the range tomorrow for a workout.

    Default Update - Range Report

I brought the PSL and my M44 to the range for sighting in and, once I realized I was retarded, everything went pretty smoothly (apparently it's helpful to have the 2 screws on the windage and elevation towers tight prior to firing the weapon). :o

Once I figured that out, I slapped a bore sighter in on the 25 yard bench and adjusted the reticle to match the laser. Once I got the PSL lined up, I did the same for the M44. I moved out to 100yards (longest distance at the range) and set up a target for each. I fired 3 rounds from the PSL and made my adjustments. First shot was dead center, so I finished off the magazine:

BTW - I was using the sling, with my elbow resting on the bench.

Range report for the M44 will be in THIS thread.

I finally received my new stock from Ironwood Designs. Staining the blonde Romanian wood to match the walnut stock was an interesting endeavor, but I was able to get it close. I used Minwax Polyshade Antique Walnut as a base on the handguards, then followed up with several coats of Bombay Mahogany.
