Talking Workout of the Day 2007

OK guys. Lets see what crazy stuff we can do. I'll start

30 minutes of dynamic Kalashnikov Drills in the sand pit
    100 situps
    5 sets of alternating snatches 52# KB x 20 x 1, and 63#KB x 10 x 4
    5 sets of clean and press 52#KB x 10 each arm x 1, and 63#KB x 5 each arm x4
    5 more sets of 10 alternating snatch/swings

At the end I am smoked.

    - Home dumbbells workout. 36 different exercises. 42 total sets.

Heading up to NJ for the weekend. Not sure I will get to do much up there so I had to make today's workout respectable.

    Burpees, kettlebells and sandbags.

Burpees to include truck jumps. As many as you can do in 1 minute, with 45 secs of shadowboxing between sets X 5. Sometimes I do plyometric box drills instead.

I use 1/2 kettles for reps. Presses and rows, 30 secs of each with 1 min shadowboxing between sets X 5.

Sandbags for snatch and grabs with a squat lunge per snatch. 1 minute drill followed by 45 secs shadow boxing X 5
    It goes like this:
Snatch and jerk up to chest
    place on left shoulder
    switch to right shoulder
    squat lunge
    put down
Alternate sides on the lead leg for the lunge

    100 crunches between 1st and 2nd exercise
100 mountain climbers between 2nd and 3rd head up to complete each leg coming up
100 bicycle leg kicks after 3rd exercise

It's a 30 minute workout. It took me about 4 months to be able to complete it without stopping at about 70% speed.

you can work other exercises in once your body gets adjusted to the ones above.

This was designed by me for fitness on a sailboat without a lot of extra equipment and can be done on a small dock or deckspace if needed. Basically the sandbag is a military duffle bag i carry other gear in filled with sand if I can get it or water bladders if I can't.

The kettle bell is a 3 gallon bucket filled with water and used to store tools and other things to be hoisted up the mast for repairs etc.

Everything else is ass and elbows.

If you want cardio, check out Bas Ruttens workout. The 28 minute warm up will make most people puke.

Had my son talk me into joining a gym. I have one at work but it does not have all of the things that let me train as much as I should (excuses, excuses). So for yesterday (Sunday):

Kettlebells! An interesting tool. Some mild upper body work to start to learn this one.

Complete workout, first one in a long time. Had trouble making it back down the stairs I was so spent. Cam machines for every muscle group plus a free weight session of bench press. Did better than I thought I would.

    You should start slowly.

The first time I did the workout I described above, I woke up the next day and thought I had contracted polio.
