Yes, I have and what I don't like is that it is not as easy to move dynamically this way. Think FOF drills with a rifle.

I work from CQB which is about 5yds or closer, and move off the X with the rifle canted over my strong shoulder and aiming through and index off the tip of my barrel or the top tip of my Surefire.
if distance is further, I engage the target off the X with the gun in strong hand grip but mount the butt stock to the support side shoulder..
you are right..different shooting positions for different situations.

I can't believe I never thought of this technique. I've spent years doing what I was taught, which was smooth transition from strong to weak side, constantly changing hands.

Just tried it -- interesting.
I did find, however that with both the AK and the AR, it was FAR easier to accomplish the transition if the support hand was on the magwell(AR)/magazine(AK), than if I had it on the handguards.

Back in my younger days when playing paintball this practice was old school. It, as you have said is out-of-the-box simple, that it is natural.

The first time I saw this technique was in a video game :D, for those who like console games check the videos for Metal Gear Solid 4 and you will see the tecnique used for clearing a building, they are using Japanese and American military consultants for the development so I guess it is in used by our forces.
