The springs break eventually. There are two little spring loaded catch
plates on the inside that are depressed to release the blade internally,
and the detent they sit in fills with shit and needs to be cleaned out.
(I will occasionally detail strip an AR or Glock, but I rarely feel the need,
to do so, outside of a field strip for cleaning. With that said, I have had no
desire, nor have I needed to tear down a Microtech)

For a $400 dollar+ knife, (The Ultratechs are around $300, unless you buy
a themed version or one with a damascus blade, which I am not interested
in. Trodons, etc are more)

Microtech has shitty CS, imo. They took MONTHS the first time I sent one
back for a broken spring to send it back.(Um, Ok)

There is a company that makes a driver to remove the special screws they
use to service them yourself, but again, that voids the warranty. (Microtech
sells a tool set, so...)

They are super cool, however. But for me, a very expensive way to open an MRE.

I have a few Microtech OTFs and have found them to be well made and very useful. The serrated edge is helpful for cutting rope or thicker material, but the dagger style blades are more useful for

other needs.

Curiously, OTFs are legal here with a carry permit while fixed blades are not. It helps to read the small print.

The Ultratech tanto is my current favorite with enough blade to accomplish rudimentary tasks and a serrated edge to rip through heavier material. The Dirac on the end is a small gem for gentlemen, with the Combat Troodon quite the opposite.

I can’t recommend their discount program enough. My order arrived within 1 week. They have 3 models available, but the Socom Elite is back ordered.

Nice group, Shooter.

I picked up my latest used Ultratech yesterday.
It's a red dual edge with DLC (black) finished
blade & hardware. (I had CS sharpen & lube it).
I almost bought a green like the one in my photo,
but put my name on the list for the next green
one built with the DLC treatment, also.

It will be the last one, I promise!

Here are mine... L-R are the Combat Troodon, the LUDT and the UTX-85.

I'm also looking for a regular Troodon in the D/E profile, and either a UTX-85 or UTX-70 in S/E profile. I'm also looking for a SOCOM Elite, which seem to be rarer than hens' teeth right now.

Nice knife, but they're not all perfect. Had a 1st gen SOCOM Elite back in the day, actually carried it

... cut the f@ck out of my finger when the booger opened up in my pocket and pierced my Royal Robbins trouser pocket. I really liked those pants. <sigh> Turned out the celebrated ceramic ball detent gizmo was not aligned properly and the blade would fly open at the most inconvenient times. I really wanted to like it but I traded it off for an Ontario Bagwell Bowie which I still have and cherish. Of course, if I'd kept it I'd be reaping collector prices I guess. C'est la vie.
