Otf's are super cool. Ive have several.
The pro's outweigh the con's for me.
(I assume you have this backwards
from your comments below)
Requires too much maintenance to keep them clean,
(I tend to use the
right tool for the job, so I don't dig caladium bulbs with my Microtechs,
but you do you)
and Microtech voids their warranty if you disassemble them yourself.
The springs break eventually. There are two little spring loaded catch
plates on the inside that are depressed to release the blade internally,
and the detent they sit in fills with shit and needs to be cleaned out.
(I will occasionally detail strip an AR or Glock, but I rarely feel the need,
to do so, outside of a field strip for cleaning. With that said, I have had no
desire, nor have I needed to tear down a Microtech)
For a $400 dollar+ knife,
(The Ultratechs are around $300, unless you buy
a themed version or one with a damascus blade, which I am not interested
in. Trodons, etc are more)
Microtech has shitty CS, imo. They took MONTHS the first time I sent one
back for a broken spring to send it back.
(Um, Ok)
There is a company that makes a driver to remove the special screws they
use to service them yourself, but again, that voids the warranty.
(Microtech
sells a tool set, so...)
They are super cool, however. But for me, a very expensive way to open an MRE.
