Recoil is relative for each shooter.

I know folks that can barely handle the recoil of a 308.

OTOH Dorkface has watched me shoot my 470 NE for funsies.
I carry two kinds of trauma kits. One for fixing it and one for causing it.

Shorty .308s drop projectile speeds down to .300 blk velocities at the expense of a lot of powder burning outside of the barrel resulting in extra flash and noise. On the good side if the bad guy is close enough you can set them on fire!
That has been my thinking. Below is chart that I copied. For me I want a semiauto 308 platform with at least a 16 inch barrel and would use it as a battle rifle for penetration of materials. Especially on vehicles with the best penetrating bullets. The coming summer will be worst than the last and who knows what will be happening.

Weapons are tools for making meat. I can make meat barehanded, tools just make the job easier. They aren't my self-esteem.

That being said I am curious to see the potential of a compact .308

Not disagreeing, but I already have .308, don't want to add a new caliber to the stable

I can agree with that sentiment..
I know its a different platform but when I made my "Hyena" type build I stuck with 556 instead of moving to 300blk. Even though 300blk would've been arguably more effective in the intended role, niche, envelope then the 556 I just had more ammo and parts for it. Plus at least in my AO 556 is ALOT more common.

I have CQB platforms in .308, 5.56, and 9mm. Each has its own advantages
