Trying not to state the obvious, however, Fab de Toledo, translates to made in Toledo Espana. Toledo Spain is a gorgeous ancient city south of Madrid on the plains of central Spain. It is home to El Greco, the Greek, the famous painter and it also was known for its quality sword making craft. I lived in Madrid for a few years and loved to go to Toledo for an espresso and a Spanish tortilla, which bears no resemblance to a Mexican one.

I found a couple of pics through my Googlefu. One of a Spanish 1897 infantry sword with a very similar blade. Another picture of a very similar Spanish Lion Head Hilt, but the blade in that one looked a little more ornate. Greg I believe is correct, and most definitely an officer's sword. I am no sword expert, but I am surprised to see such an ornate hilt with such a plain blade. If you search google images for Spanish Lion Head Hilt, you will find some similar images. There is also a swordforum.com that you might be able to post you pics on that might get some answers.

Do slight variances come from officers maybe being required to furnish their own weaponry?

Found him and sent an email. I appreciate it and I will let you guys know. I like history and I think it’s pretty cool that the sword is in such great shape.
