Default Question about original L-Mount red dot base

The original L-Mount red dot base has two threaded, blind holes on either side of the front sight mounting hole.
I am scratching my head, trying to figure out their purpose. What are they for? Thanks.

ORIGINALLY, THREADED PLUGS TO ACT AS RISERS, BUT FOR CORRECT LENGTHS THEY WOULD HAVE HAD TO BE MACHINED PLUGS, WHICH WOULD HAVE DRIVEN THE PRICE PAST THE POINT WHERE WE WANTED IT, SAME AS THE NON THREADED HOLES IN THE CURRENT VERSION.

People have asked me if I consider myself a good or bad person. The truth of it is, I don't know or care. I have been called both. I like to think I have saved more lives than I have ended. Either way, I can still sleep at night.
