As I understand it, the history of porting is that it was invented somewhere in the 80s or 90s because some government guys wanted tight patterns and reduced recoil in their pump guns, and didn't want to mess with screw in chokes. Fast forward to 2020, shotgun ammo has come a long way in terms of pattern control. Shotgun recoil will always be a problem worth mitigating, so got that, but does porting really do much to control the pattern anymore with today's ammo, or are we talking about diminishing returns? I'm not really a shotgun guy, so just wondering.
