I've been spending a lot of time in doctor's offices and hospital waiting rooms lately. One thing I have noticed is the addition of double wide chairs. At first I didn't quite understand the reason for them. Certainly two people could sit side-by-side in them, but that didn't really make sense. Then one day a gal about the size of the guy in the meme waddled into the waiting room, and eased down in one of the double wides. She filled it up completely, and I a finally realized their purpose.

It is sobering to realize how much of our society's resources are being dedicated to accommodating other people's poor lifestyle choices.

I attended a meeting at U of Iowa a few months ago, shuttle from Chicago to Iowa City, the stewardess handed out at least 6 seat belt extenders, I just laughed, never knew such things existed.... a bit sad.

The same people who needed the seat belt extenders were probably irritated and offended that they were required to buy an additional seat to accommodate their corpulences.

We had to leave a 400 pound deceased female in a single wide because she wouldn't fit through the door and we didn't have saws to open up that sardine can. Thank you, EMTs!

It's getting to a point where obesity becomes a severe societal problem. It is not just to themselves but to normal individuals who cannot evacuate a victim as one post noted, also going around a morbid walrus in an aircraft has become quite the liability as well. I get gaining a few pounds here and there over time, dietary indiscretion, less active, whatever, say perhap 5-10 lbs, go from 170 t 175 or 180 max, then diet, and work it off; not have an entire person cloned to you where you go from 170 to 270 !

There is another use for seat belt extenders if you can justify asking for one!

Somewhere in Indiana, they manufacture extra large caskets. But they require two cemetery plots.

I always get a seatbelt extender on an airplane. It is a handy improvised weapon. Just like I always order two Bacardi bottles....they are the handles for my para cord garrote in my back pocket.
