Don't waste your time on a piston, get a quality DI. It's not necessarily a one size fits all, know what you want to do, then learn how to do it. Long/short barrel? Suppressed/unsupressed? Subs/supers? Don't cheap out on quality.

Thanks, that's good to know. Wasn't sold on the idea of retrofitting an existing design.

Thinking, short barrel that can do sub and super but I'm going to guess if I tack on suppressed I'm going to need more than one upper...

And yeah "don't cheap out on quality" should be a forum rule.

8.5-10.5" barrel will give you what you want. Don't try to shoot subs unsuppressed, and only use a pistol gas length, but as long as the gas port, buffer weight/spring are balanced properly, you should be fine.

    Interesting.

I assume with that set up, unsuppressed subs wouldn't have enough gas to reliably cycle?

What’s the grain weight cut off for sub sonic? I’ve only used 200g, will 147g do?

I have run subs in all mine without a can with no problem.

It depends on how its loaded. A 200 gn round can be loaded super sonic if you want it. What are you trying to do?

Well I’m just running subs for fun right now. 200g S&B from an 8.5 Aero P upper and a rugged obsidian 9. Would like something for 2 legged predators for inside the house

I use a 40 S&W AR pistol with an 8.5" barrel and a linear comp. Loaded with 180's I am getting @ 1180-1200 fps for up to 575 fpe, loaded with the 155's I am getting 1300-1350 for up to 625 fpe but a lot more noise than the 180's.

In my 5.56 I keep it loaded with 55 grn Nosler Ballistic tips.

I shoot subs and supers out of my 8.5" 300 with no issues.
