Default Federal HST 124gr +P question

Target Sports is running a case special on Federal 124gr +P HST right now (1200 fps). I've always chosen Gold Dot 124gr +P (1220 fps). Are the two rounds comparable in performance?

I haven't heard anything bad onit but double check your zero and I wouldn't mix them due to the differential in performance.

    Always entertaining, mildly offensive
IANative: Indeed, when you grab Brent (or he grabs you), it feels like liquid unobtanium wrapped in rawhide... whereas Greg is just solid muscle wrapped in hate, seasoned w/ snuff and a little lead.

Pick one and keep it until you find something better. Price should NOT be the deciding factor.

Agreed. Price is not the deciding factor, but it is a factor. IF it offers comparable performance, $300 less per thousand rounds is not insignificant.

on legit defensive ammo it is insignificant, especially in that amount. That is years of carry rotation, I'd buy 50 to try it out in your heaters to see how it groups. if it's good to go and $300 less per 1k get it, 1K equals roughly 25 years of carry ammo in a single gun. Think long term.

Understood, Greg. I should have clarified that I'm buying for 5 family members... the other four only have one pistol each, but I have... well... more than one, lol.

    Greg's advice is good.

I would also say that sometimes it's worth it to buy something on sale just to stock up, even if it doesn't immediately go into the rotation. Never hurts to have more quality ammo, and there's nothing wrong with taking advantage of savings when you can. Even if it never becomes your "first string" ammo, it's good to have additional stock.

Obviously, once you get it, test it and see how it performs with your guns.

That’s what I have, it worked in my 19. I doubt it will be any different with my 17. I haven’t shot anyone with it, but I’m sure it will work like supposed to...

Then buy a couple hundred. Test it. Every gun is different, if it works, it works, if not find the right ammo
