A couple more rehab ones I like -

Take a light weight, I use a medicine ball but could use anything. Hold out at at arms length, parallel to the floor. Make small figure eights, one direction then the other.

Another one for a kettlebell, again light weight. Hold it upside down by the “horns”, your thumb side will be next to the bell. Make circles around your head, tight as you can make the circle without hitting your head. Could use a small dumbbell as well but the KB is easier.

There are some other good ones but I’m out of time.

Papa, when you have time we could meet in the dojo and I can show you a few.

I will. I'm going to have to relearn how to punch with that hand as well. I don't think brute force will be sufficient or viable long term.

I was doing those and had worked up to 40 lbs. the shoulder never complained, however during part of the rotation my thumbs were taking the weight at the base joint and that really aggravated my arthritis. Had to quit that one.
Discipline is just choosing between what you want now and what you want most.

    Brent Y,

I believe the kettlebell motion you describe is the “halo”. Another worthwhile shoulder exercise/mobility is the Bulgarian bag and they are cheap as dirt to make your own. Minimalist shoulder exercise is band pull aparts. Can be done almost daily in high reps. Pro tip- if you like band pull aparts, you’ll love starfish band pull aparts. Don’t nap on my previously mentioned Indian Clubs either and get 1 or 2 lb clubs if you decide to jump in
