It is not the poor management of the liberal progressives that is responsible, it is us evil capitalists because of climate change.

My wife learned today that an acquaintance
of ours has a son & his family that live in that
area. She said they are expecting the power to
be out for 5 days. She said they don't have a
generator or any significant prep items, and
they are in a panic about what they are going to
do. Even simple food prep is going to be a big
    problem.

As I said earlier, innocents will be *affected*.
(*Disclaimer: Even after looking up the difference
between effected & affected, I am still at a loss
    for the correct word here.*)

The power outage is going to affect them. After 5 days they will feel the effects.

Having sat out 10 days on generator power before (a winter ice storm), I think this will be a dealbreaker for folks. A day or two is one thing but longer durations really test preparation skills.

Pretty sure you used the correct word.
And shame on you. Proper grammar is a tool of the oppressors.

I bet a generator and 20 gal of fuel on a street corner would sell for $1500 after the first night no power. And I am sure there will people out doing it. No street lights in many urban centers is an invitation for looting.

Been in this since the 2007 fires...installing propane fueled stand by generators in our rural areas. The utilities are NOT going to open themselves up to billion dollar judgments; your food, water and heart/lung machines be damned. Sad for the folks in the cities, or too poor for quality power. S.D.G.&E. just put out a warning of impending shut down in the next day or so...we get 'santa ana' winds here, and they get everyone worked up. Too bad the utilities can't keep a generator plant operational. Perfectly said: "And so it goes in communist countries"!

Well as a PG&E stockholder that has taken a serious hit and may loose his total investment, I feel like they had it coming. But what do I know I am just an evil capitalist.
