    Default A different lighting solution:

Iíll let the pictures do the explaining:

    - Remington MCS forend (the new model with the light cutouts)
    - Two Photon Microlight 1ís.

Presto, easy to use, unobtrusive lighting solution for the Tac 14. Itís not terribly bright, and you wonít be blinding an adversary with it, but itís bright enough to see what youríre shooting at and identify friend or foe at 20 yards. Thatís farther than the longest shot in either my apartment or the farmhouse. Itís not a replacement for the true ďtacticalĒ lights like Surefire or Streamlightís offerings, but for the role this gun is intended to fill, it works better than either of those options for me. It gives me a useable amount of light, while adding no weight or bulk to the weapon, which is important with something like the Tac-14. My full-size 870 still wears a Surefire DSF. Time and use will tell how durable the little Photon lights are.

    That's--brilliant. No pun intended.

Even with a hasty grasp, you're bound to hit at least one. And you still have one if the other fails.

What lights are supposed to go there?

I finished installing those lights on my MCS forend just yesterday. Yep, good solution.

For those interested, the screws that come with the MCS foreend are too short. You need 8-32 screws. I think I got quarter inch long.

The light is I think perfect for illuminating a dark room. As noted, you’re not going to blind anyone, but you won’t blind yourself after hitting a white wall.

I always knew that weird cut out must have been meant for a pressure switch, and the little holes looked made for LEDs. But I never found any info on these, and my google-fu is strong.

I considered a DIY lighting mechanism and even looked at modding the foreend for a small laser, but then I stumbled on these lights by accident. My MCS is getting some Yondering attention right now so I have not yet installed the foreend. Looking forward to working with it though.

Messerman, you stole my thunder! Nice job. :)

I should have an extra MCS foreend to sell after Gabe’s shotgun class in Oct. Has to wait til the project is done before I can let it go.

I really hope these little lights work out. This is a pretty clean set up.
