Gabe... I like the dehorm idea.

Also a few misc. parts that might make your AK experience more positive but without changing too much of the original configuartion.

Kreb makes a great rear sight.

XS makes a great front sight

Kreb or Blackjack makes a good safety that has a enhanced latch that can allow you to use your strong side thumb to operate the safety.

Slings is a great idea, a little different from Gabe.. I love my Blue force gear UDC single point sling.

No, this just holds the bolt open when the safety is up/on.

    for example

Also, the Krebs dust cover mounted rear sight isn't available off their website yet. I am looking forward to trying that out some day.

    Default Rear sight recommendation?

Went to krebscustom.com. Couldn't find any rear sights except this peep sight. Is this the one you were talking about?

    Nice.

Does anyone have any experience with these rear sights?

Will they readily fit on any Klash (Romanian, Polytech, Maadi, etc) or will some filing required?

I've tried them on a friend's AK. Personally I do not like them. An aperture sight should be close to your eye to work well.

If I were designing an AK for best utility I would install an XS front sight. Some guy named Gomez wearing a hawaiian shirt gave me one in Memphis and I like it. ;) Then open up your rear sight notch a bit. This gives you the same "look" as your pistol sights.

There are advantages to having the same sight picture (pistol or rifle) for all CQB engagements, n'est pas??

I just rest the front sight and its partial ring tangent to the horizontal rear blade. At short range, the strike is somewhere in that circle:

    _(I)_

Best I can do to illustrate. And, it lets in way more light for when that's desireable.

    Default Mount recommendations?

Although Gabe says "keep it simple", I seem to shoot much better with a red dot optic. What type of optic mount would work best for my AK47 made by Global Trades? I understand that I cannot use a side type of mount on my receiver. Here are a couple of mounts I've found that look interesting. What do you guys think?

Found this tri-rail mount at copedist.com

Cheek weld is an essential element of rifle marksmanship. Cheekweld requires the face and eye be kept low on the stock. Scope mounts that place the optic excessively high should be avoided. That is the main beef I have with Com-bloc mounts.

I would go with the lower image ... the Ultimak. Alternatively, get a simple weaver rail and mount it on your top cover. Then mount a scope to it. Mount it low. This last is less desirable as the top cover may have zero changes going one when you remove it.

Eventually I will set up the Warrior Talk Kalashnikov. It will be very simple. It will have the following -

    1. Ultimak Gas Tube with a Dot Optic (undecided on which one)
    2. Green USA pistol grip and fore end
    3. AK-74 folding stock
    4. USA made Vortex type flash suppressor
    5. XS front sight, and slightly wider rear notch (same as a pistol)
    6. Sling (I have an idea on this and am looking for a manufacturer)
    7. Parkerized finish
    8. Bulgarian polymer mags
    9. Small weaver mount screwed onto the fore end for flashlight
Thats it...no space age fore end to attach vaccuum cleaners and coffee makers. No modified safety as I take it off with my index finger and leave it off during the fight/drill. No need to hold the bolt open as I don't try to run the beast like an AR-15. Its an AK. I accept and embrace that fact.

    Question for you folks....

i have a WASR-10 and another Century Arms AK-47's, both are Romanian made....with the century Arms being of finer detail and workmanship...
The Magazines on the WASR-10 will fit both weapons and when i rack the bolt..... it will close everytime. With the Century magazines.... they won't fit the WASR-10 and when used on the Century...i rack the bolt and the bolt stays open without a round in it.....
My question for ya'll is.... should i use the Wasr magazines or the century magazines.... do you want the bolt to close even after the last shot has been fired....or do you prefer it to stay open after the last round is fired????

I have to admit that if I could find a good way to attach a coffee maker I prolly would.

    Must call LaRue!
