I have seen stuff similar to this in various places over time. If I remember right it the conditioning basically causes micro fractures in the bones and forces them to heal and thicken the bones. Whenever I think about it the juice doesn't seem worth the squeeze. I almost never have a need to repeatedly kick rib cages like in Muay Thay nor am I worried about kicking people wearing bamboo armor. I think the conditioning and physical reactions of the body behind the condition is interesting and fascinating I just don't see it being relevant in modern fighting to the extent that its worth the time commitment. Hard shins aren't going to stop a 9mm or a load of buckshot.
