    BROTHERS!!!

I was asked recently why I call some men "brother" when talking with them and referring to them. The question took me off balance as I had not thought about it in that carnal way.

Traditionally you have brothers of the blood...meaning members of your family, DNA, etc. But you also have brothers of the fire...and that often builds tighter bonds than anything blood can build. My kids have many dangerous uncles.

Brothers of the fire are men whose hands I have held as they died, men whom I have hunted enemies with, cried with, drank with and bled with...and their brothers as well.

A strange family, but as Crane wrote, "a mysterious fraternity born of smoke and danger of death". The fire tends to build far stronger families than mere blood ever will.

So thank you red handed, soul- stealing, dark-hearted, bastards for being my brothers!

The original version of the saying blood is thicker than water is

The blood of the oath is thicker than the water of the womb

I like the fire analogy better........

I find solace in the fact that I have brothers I have never met.

That these MEN would have my back without a moment's hesitation.

This tribe is an oasis in the dry land of pussification. I am very thankful to have found it. I was dying of thirst.

Some of my brothers wear or wore badges or drove tanks. Some are top flight competitors. Others have no greater pedigree that they were raised MEN and all that entails.

I am proud to be mentioned in the same sentence as these.

I am exponentially more dangerous than when I first found a certain Kalashnikov DVD.

Thanks to the teachings and instruction of my Brothers.
