Question Factory cut slides with optic plates?

What are the thoughts regarding factory cut slides with optic plates?

    Examples:
    Beretta APX RDO
    Glock MOS Gen 5
    FN 509 Tactical

This is for civilian EDC, and not someone that beats their tools against concrete for YouTube.

Substandard due to mounting to a plate that mounts to a slide. Too many points of contact that isnít a custom fit.

You won't find anyone here that advocates it. If it can be milled for a multi-optic plate, it can be milled correctly for a specific optic (usually). MOS systems generally seat the optic too high, and defy KISS.

Well...if one lives on food stamps, cant afford an RMR, and wants to think that slapping on a $200 Burris Fastfire is just as good as anything else (after all...we're just civilians), then go get one.

Those that want no compromise on optics and start with RMRs dont need such contrived workarounds.

    Thats my impression.

One size fits all fits everything poorly.

And mounting your optic to a plate adds height that you really can't afford to add. The next generation of service pistols will need to be designed in a way that allows mounting an optic much lower - ideally, the only things protruding above the top of the slide should be the front sight, rear sight, and RDS screen.

I am actually surprised that question is even being asked here.

When I first got into a red dot there wasn't an option to buy a cutout from the manufacturer.
Now manufacturers offer a milled cutout, but with a plate.
Beretta, FN, and Glock may also be offering improved versions.
