He was my hero growing up I would watch Mail Call every time it came on didn't matter if it was a rerun or not. I almost wore out my Dad's VHS copy of FMJ.

He was a larger than life no nonsense character that you couldn't help but love I learned a great deal of history from him and I will say he will be the person I will most regret not being able to meet.

Oh on top of all this he was a glock man back when everyone was stroking their kimbers and anyone else in his age group would "never be caught dead with one of those plastic guns" he was in full page articles holding a glock and I think it said a lot about the man that he chose the ugly reliable "block" before it was en vogue

The gun has played a critical role in history. An invention that has been praised and denounced... Served Hero and villain alike... and carries with it moral responsibility. To understand the gun is to better understand history.

....and lets not forget he got Fd by the Hollywood leftist. If that's not enough reason to honor him, well I'm not sure what else to say.

I have two favorite scenes from his work. The first was his maybe 30 seconds as a chopper pilot in Apocalypse Now. Second was from On Deadly Ground, when his team was chasing Steven Seagal --"tooth brush and bikini underwear...."

Wish I'd made a screen shot ... I did my Google thing looking for the Apocalypse Now scene and saw the New York Times headline "Obscene Drill Instructor From Full Metal Jacket Dies at 74." Pissed me off. I watched the Apocalypse Now video, then went back looking for the NYT headline. It now says "Harsh Drill Instructor," etc. I wonder if someone kicked them in the ass.

Anywho ... it's a sad afternoon. On the other hand, my morning was brighter as I got to pin (well, velcro) E-7 stripes on one of my old team mates. The Old Guard passes and the New Guard relieves.
