I've never understood the attraction of sitting on the bank and waiting for fish to bite. The only way I fish is with a spear gun and a scuba tank.

Me and my friends refer to AZ as. . . . . Free America. We have a home in Scottsdale and another in the White Mountains (25 to 30 degrees cooler than the valley and a 2 hour drive door to door). When I retire my wife and I plan to live wherever the weather is better at the moment. It's good life, I cannot complain!

Very Nice... I have spent time in both places.

If he keeps them coming some us may relocate to there! My wife and I have been talking about making some changes and he's certainly making AZ very tempting!

DogDoc, you and I may have to spend some time talking off-line at some point... Idaho has been in my dreams for quite a few years. I don't know if you are aware, but it's usually near the top of the recommended states for prepper and survivalist types. For example, Joel Skousen wrote a book called Strategic Relocation:

    http://www.joelskousen.com/strategic.html

In it, he ranks the states, with 5 stars being the best. Only 2 states get 5 stars--Idaho and Utah. The state where I live (FL) gets zero!

Idaho is at the top of the list for James Rawles and his American Redoubt project as well:

    https://survivalblog.com/redoubt/

It's become pretty much an ongoing refrain for me and my brothers--whenever we talk about something we don't like about modern life, we ask each other "you ready to head to Idaho yet?"

I'm sure AZ offers many of the same benefits, as long as you don't worry about full-scale EOTWAWKI scenarios...

    Arizona is an amazing place.

On a traffic stop the officer-in-training (lateral from a very rural agency) was notified by the driver he had a Glock 26 in the vehicle. The deputy asked if he may have it for the duration of the traffic stop, for everyone's safety - asked...didn't take. The driver said yes and handed it over. I watched the FTO and OIT do their thing and while they were writing out the warning the OIT quickly cleaned the filthy Glock 26, relubricated it, and then upon returning it to the driver he explained the virtues of proper maintenance and keeping a round in the chamber.

Only in the Southwest would that happen I think.

You are running out of time. More California plates are showing up, since I moved here 4 years ago.
Freeloaders (wellfare) are also increasing. The Californiacation of Idaho is beginning.I suggest Northern Idaho.
