Default sad history of the british SA80

Apparently the brits used a 26 person team of engineers to design the SA80 and not a single one of them had ever designed firearms or had even fired a gun. No wonder it had problems. Obviously not a single person with firearms knowledge due to the antigun mindset of british society.

Below is a video from forgotten weapon on part of this.

Dick Marchinko wrote of an underwater breathing device designed by a non-swimmer who was arrogant towards the SEALs who told him that it did not work.

Years ago a newly minted engineers just out of school was sent to the factory floor to work there for a while to learn exactly how things functioned in the real world. Not true any more.

Haha, Forgotten Weapons has more videos shared on this site than any other single YouTube channel.

I'm pretty sure Gaston Glock never designed a gun before what became the G17 either... I get the idea that engineers who aren't shooters couldn't have proper perspective; but the SA80 failed for a lot more reasons then the hobbies of the designers.

All or much of this may have been said before:
Gaston Glock didn't design the G17. He was busy running a company that made plastic dinner trays and dinner wear for airlines when the Austrian government issued the bid request, he saw an opportunity and jumped on it with both feet. He hired the top European weapons designers he could and the rest is history. As for the SA80, the real motivator behind it was the government wanting to off-load Royal Ordnance and needed to have it actually making something new to entice a buyer. BAE Land Systems is who ended up with R.O. and H&K Germany does the rebuilds into A2 configuration. Production ended in 1994.

Two questions begging to be asked:
    1. How long will it be before the British dump the SA80 and replace it with AR type rifles?
    2. Is Glock still making the plastic dinner trays and dinner wear?
