Some common dogs of Florida of the late Victorian era. 1880s-1920s
    JW, Some Spaniels and hounds.
Most certainly dogs such as these were crossed with WE type for a variety of reasons. Such crosses produced many a good cur dog.

I find it a major bummer knowing some dogs have a low lifespan. This is one of my neighbors dogs, Jackson. He's a little over a year old, very well behaved, and always looks back to his humans to see if it's ok for him to go meet people. It sucks knowing he's only got about 5 to 6 years left.

I am not sure what was done with great danes to make them so unhealthy. Big dogs are supposed to grow slowly and also big dogs today are even bigger than was the case many years ago. A bullmastiff 90 yrs ago was say like 80 lbs or so for a male. Today they are much larger. People want big dogs. Irresponsible breeders out to make a buck will supply what the public wants. I guess the most one can do is be sorry for the poor badly bred dogs.
Not much else to be done. It is near impossible to educate people. They will not listen.

    That's one handsome guy.
Never met a Great Dane I didn't like. It's a breed that's never bitten me, either.

Lots of great dogs in our neighborhood. Plenty of dogs for me to play with since I just do have the time I would like to have to dedicate to one.

Here's another fine pup, Joe. She is also about a year old and seems to be brought up quite well.

I feed them canned mackerel in brine, authority brand puppy food, raw eggs, and pedigree canned dog food.

My aunt had a blue-gray Dane named, yes, Duke of course. He would play hide-n-seek with you in the house. They had an interesting home layout so more corners and hallways than usual. It was hilarious to come around a blind corner and see this giant dog looking you right in the face with a look of surprise, then wheel and run silently to hide again because he was "found."

And he actually made it over 7 years but did not make 8.
