    Life is loss.

    Hemangiosarcoma.

Another God-damned word I wish I'd never heard or needed to hear.

Eli, our big GSD, just diagnosed with it. XO found a growth near the base of his tail when he went in for surgery two weeks ago. Biopsy results today.

Never seen such a devoted, protective, intelligent dog, or one who presented as so nearly human. Love given and love graciously accepted.

He goes in again Wednesday. They're gonna knock him out, X-ray him for evidence of internal metastasis, and then dock his tail if he's otherwise clear.

Thank God for blessing us with this dog.

We're praying that we get to keep him for another five or ten years.

Papa...Prayers up for good news on your pup there.
We had Torque put down after nearly 13 years and its gotta be one of the hardest things to do...we'd fought for three/four months with issues stemming from diabetes and it got to the point where he was just totally out of it and not eating or responding .
Since then we've added Coco to the family, she's a red ACD and our three year old blue ACD Zach and her are getting along extremely well.

Now there's a face with character.

    See you later, big fella.

He was definitely my boy...he was abandoned as a pup and the police were called to pick him up (tied to a tree and left there by the assholes who left) they took him to my brother's place(Veterinary Clinic)....he called me right away as we'd just previously lost my previous "best dog ever" Maxx...that one hurt to lose too!! He was very skinny when we got him home and we had over 11 great years with him...so big and intimidating looking to most people but he was the most gentle pups I've ever had...Lord knows I miss him dearly. Zach and Coco certainly carry some of his traits but he was definitely one of a kind.

Prayers out, brother. I've had nothing but GSDs for the past 20+ years, and I intend to have one, or more, by my side when I breathe my last. They are, undoubtedly, God's greatest gift, short of His Son (and my family, of course). I love my Shepherds like I love my kids.

    They're like kids.

Beloved autistic kids that never grow up and die before you.

Gives you that tiny glimpse of what God has to endure; the fathomless mercy He grants; the grief He feels.

Eli is back. Surgery went well. He's now wearing a soft, padded version of the Cone of Shame.

The X-rays prior to surgery did not disclose any suspicious lesions or growths due to metastization . No guarantees, though.

He is one tough hombre. Doped up and hooded he still appears alert and is strong and active.

No pix at this stage. He'd never forgive me.

Think of a giant long-haired Dobie, or a huge hairy Ozzie cattle dog and you get the picture.
