But maybe a shepherd mix will be in the cards. We're looking into getting a dog soon.

Those three dogs do not look like good candidates for an apartment life style.

There are some modern bully breeds that are reasonably low energy, sedentary and have short coats. The standard size american bully is one. There are leavitt bulldogs (olde english bulldogge) that are healthy and can live 16 years that depending on breeder can be good house dogs.
Standard American Bully. They are Pit crosses, with other dogs that likely include english bulldog intended to reduce energy levels and make them better couch potatoes. But one needs to question breeder as to what his line of dogs will do.

Yeah, that pile of shepherds definitely wouldn't work in an apartment. Hopefully in a couple years or less, the wife and I will have a house with a piece of land where we could exercise more energetic dogs, but then I'd still have to reckon with the time requirements of practicing as a young lawyer.

The apartment complex doesn't allow pit mixes, either, nor, frankly, do I trust most of those. Although granted, a good breeder could produce trustworthy dogs, but we're planning on going through a shelter for a mutt rather than a purebreed.

When I was looking into the Malinois, They were described as a GSD on crack. When they were good they were really good, but when they were bad...

The first dog my wife & I had was a GSD/Lab mix. Excellent dog.

Hey, thanks everybody. I've recently been experimenting with CBD oil for the dogs and after today, I can say they certainly seem way more calm while I was at work haha.
