Yesterday I went over to one of the neighbors that I hang out with so I can meet his dogs since we always hangout at other peoples houses.

South African Mastif with a touch of Rhodesian Ridgeback. Apparently born without a hip on one side, but has had surgery to help keep her leg in place. She does quite well and fast.

And the typical Rottweiler... sat on my feet so he could keep an eye on me.

The south african dogs of that kind are usually called boerboels. The ancestors of these dogs come from the Afrikaner dogs that were used to guard the homesteads, work and protect the cattle, and for hunting. They were lighter built and smaller than what they are now and similar to our bigger cur dogs of the USA. In recent years they have been crossed with various european mastiffs and everything else to get bigger dogs. Probably depends mostly on the breeder as to how good a dog you end up with.

I have a friend who has a Czech Shepherd. Every time I go over there, the dog trots right up to me turns around and sits right on my foot, then leans into my leg. The only way to get her off is to throw a ball.

Funny, I used to know a horse that did the same thing!

Didn't take any pictures this morning. It's 13 F (in town) with a 12 mph wind from the NW. Chill factor (based on the temps in town and the wind are at 5F.

The middle sized black dog is stretched out in the dirt in front of the dog house sleeping. The smaller black dog (about 63 lbs. on his last vet visit) is sitting on the dog house porch on a rug. The big white pup is stretched across the rug on the patio up onto the porch trying to wash the small black dog's neck.

Thee dog house. All with 2 to 3 layers of carpet on the floor, insulated walls/floors/ceilings and they are out in the cold/wind. Dad always said, as long as a dog has plenty to eat, they will not freeze.

Of course, this summer (May) I'll be out there with the combs/clippers giving them hair cuts to help them stay cooler this summer.

My two females when it gets below 40 F want in the house. The yearly male pup does not mind so much. It is 31 F this morning it will warm up quickly I think today.

That looks like an Anatolian Shepherd.
