My 6 month old Great Pyr watching over the baby during her bath. She's decided that watching the baby is her "job" and follows her everywhere.

There are a lot of good dogs around, but people tend to want what ever strikes their fancy from reading a forum or FB. I have had inquiries from brazil and Canada. I took a pass on those.

Default How the show ring ruins breeds.

It has been mentioned about how stupid gun games can be since they are not the best training for the real world.

The show ring for dogs and I think also horses can often be just as bad for turning out useful animal breed.

modern english bulldog is an example of a dog breed ruined by the show ring

First below is the Mongolian pacing horse used by Mongol warriors to conquer vast stretches of Asia and into Europe. Last is the champion walking horse of the American Show ring

Not what I would want, but for police and military work they are likely the best.

But even they do have their failures.

Suspect the SS failure was due to selection, training, and Russian interference!

Now days the decoy wears padded clothing and does not mount an effective defense against the dogs. The White House K9 was startled when it was kicked. That had not happened before.
During the days of the conquistadors the dogs got real practice at ripping people apart according to some accounts. Can not today allow the dogs to tear apart the training decoys. The USA did in the 19th century had mastiff cross breeds called blood hounds that were not so different from what the spanish used. These no longer exist. But I am sure there are people trying to recreate those ancient dogs.

La Monteria Infernal …… The dogs the Conquistadors brought with them were Mastiff breeds who were hardly the lap variety or destined for the plate. These attack dogs, often wearing their own armor, were the common European shock and awe tactic of the period. The first documented New World use of these canine swat teams occurred in 1495 when Bartholomew Columbus, Chris’s brother, used 20 mastiffs in a battle waged at Santa Maris el Antigua, Darien with his brother employing the same approach a year later. These dogs were trained to pursue, disembowel and dismember humans and to this purpose, enjoyed a human diet in the Americas. The Spanish reveled in holding human hunts called “la Monteria infernal “ where much sport was made of chasing and killing the local men, women and children. The noted Spanish apologist Bartolme de La Casas has left us numerous accounts of the exploits of these hounds from hell and it is easy to understand why these horrific memes still prevail in the cultures of Latin America. The names of many of these dogs so esteemed by the Spaniards still live on and here are but a few: Bercerruillo the terror of Borinquen, until he was fallen by 50 arrows, received a salary one and a half times that of an archer from his owner Ponce de Leon.
Leoncillo, Bercerruillo’s son, was Balboa’s warrior, earned over 500 gold pesos in booty during his many campaigns, and he was the first Western dog to see the Pacific.
Bruto, De Soto’s champion, received 20 slaves as spoils before his career ended.
Scores of firsthand accounts tell us how the dogs attacked local Caciques [chiefs] both dead and alive. Perhaps this information may help to explain the innate fear held by many cultures for man’s best friend and fiend. https://elvalleinformation.wordpress...nish-war-dogs/

Often the dogs dogs used by the spanish were wolf hounds or crosses of such. See painting below.

These actually appear as "stong headed greyhound types," know as Lebrel in Spain/Portugal, translating to Irish Greyhound.
This Art Work was presented by Richard Stratton, to show this basic type had long existed, before the APBT, and even the name Bulldog
