Here is little bit about Iberian Bulldogs.
Below is Mick from a family of Texas bulldogs. I asked the owner about the naturally short tail and below the picture is the conversation on it.

Me asking a question: I just noticed Micks tail. It is not cut and yet is very short. There are dogs on the iberian peninsula that naturally have either twisted tails or very short ones. You at one time mentioned mexican bulldog being in mick's ancestry. I wonder if that is where those genetics are from.
Right . My family called them Screwtails
Me: IIRC they were called cauda torta by a portuguese fellow. But I just checked online twisted tail is "cauda torcida". Some of our portuguese speakers can probably give the most correct translation. Also there is likely a related Castilian word for it.

Me: Mick is certainly a treasure for sure.

Below part of a DNA chart showing DNA similar for mastiff-bully type breeds. It is from this publication https://www.cell.com/cell-reports/pd...247(17)30456-4

    Bull baiting

One of my dogs below that is a white english bulldog from Georgia does not look so different.

It was recently pointed out to me that baiting bulls in the painting have skinny tails that likely come from terrier or greyhound type dog crosses.
