What are the details on this knife? Sheath? Cost? Expected availability? Materials?

Thanks!

(I got impatient waiting for someone else to start this thread.)

I missed the first run of them... I will get one once I find them.

:drooling::drooling::drooling: Please don't keep us waiting. I the GNS is my favorite knife in my arsenal; I don't carry it much as it's outside the legal limit for my area; I hope this one's just a tad shorter. This Christmas season just won't end...TSD CQB AK now the GNS reborn...oh man.

Yes, thanks for doing so. My eyes went real wide when I saw that picture.

I borrowed Gabe's pic, instead of his knife.

Looks interesting, but kind of scary to have no guard between the edge and my hand.
Or am I seeing it wrong?
Isn't it made to be used edge up if in forward grip, or edge in if in reverse pikal grip?

Wow. What a good looking knife. I like that the knife in the picture has some wear on it.

It looks like it is designed with the handle backwards. Where can I learn about using a knife like that.

Yes, I agree I would like to find out more about this knife also.

I'm trying to figure out if the handle is aluminum, or some kind of synthetic.

Some quick details -

Steel - 01 Tool Steel. Just like the Randall Knives. If you want a knife for cutting and stabbing instead of looking at, tool steel is the way to go. It will be finished...not decided on what yet.

Handle - Will be similar to this. Aluminum. There are forensic reasons to go with this over a porous surface, but we will leave that as is.

Sheath - Will be Kydex. Hopefully Tek-Lok capable as well as static cord capable.

The knife here is a prototype we have been abusing for T&E. Unlike the original chizel grind...this has double grind.

Price Point - Not sure yet but we will try to make it within everyone's reach. If you want a cheap throw away...this is not it however.

It's not a deal breaker, but I actually prefer the chisel grind on a knife like this.

(I know I'm in the minority.)

Looking forward to the final product!

When we tested it, it did not do as well as we would have thought. That is why we went back to the double bevel. The knife must cut as well as puncture. If all we wanted to do was puncture we would have brought out an ice pick.

Glad to hear it's tool steel and V ground. I've had a bunch of bitchen Striders and ended up selling all but one fixed blade because they are so hard to sharpen and keep sharp in the field.

I'm sure that there's lots of fellows that like to sit around and clean their weapons or hone their blades on wet stones for an hour at a time but I'm more of a boot lace and motor oil guy that would rather spend 30 seconds passing my blade through a Smith's sharpener and be done it so that I can focus on other things.

The Phillipines, prison, or an SI class...

Just throwing this idea out there. Would AquaTerra work as a finish for a blade? If it's the best thing for weather/element resistance for our guns why not for our blades that will be subjected to the same use.

The SI class would be wisest option. :lmao:

Not a tease at all...just education and paving the way. Otherwise...its just another knife. Know the purpose and history, then understand the knife design. Then why.

Hopefully today I see the first production sample...if it fills our requirements, the blade is off to Blade tech for sheathing.

Would a TSD shovel in O1 be outside the realm of possibility?

Great deal, I was wondering where the sheath was going to be made.

Will the scales be removable?

01-25-2012, 02:58 PM
I don't want to hijack the thread, but if the GnS turns out to be a sales success, I'd hope TSD could put its design wizardry to a "legal anywhere" fighting pocket knife. I would define such as a folding knife with a blade of no more than 3". In my experience, a lot of jurisdictions and jobs that forbid any kind of "deadly weapon" exempts such pocket knives.

I know a lot has been posted on Warriortalk about carrying in non-permissive environments, but I still think there would be a market for a knife that embodies the design philosophy of the GnS as much as possible within the limitations of a 3" folder.

Will the scales be removable?

They're always removable with a bit of effort. The question is, are they reusable?

Gabriel Suarez
01-25-2012, 03:27 PM
The scales will be of a design that has capabilities in supporting the thrust and slash as well as of a non-porous texture that facilitates the disinfecting process from any blood-borne pathogens that may be contacted during conflict. The scales on all our blades will be removable, and at some point there may be accessory scales available with differing textures and characteristics to fit varying environments.

My only question is when is that "wicked surgical instrument" going to be available? I can tell ya this witch-doctor can't wait.

I like the removable scale feature. All working knives should have that feature. Ditto the double grind. I dislike chisel ground blades.

FWIW, I love the blued finish on the prototype. If it winds up coming with some kind of black powder coat or something similar, I'd really have to resist stripping the blade and bluing my own knife. That prototype looks great.

Received production samples. Some will go out to a special source for some fitting, others to Blade-Tech for sheathing. Couple of weeks we will be taking orders.

Thanks for the update, this may be the first knife I ever pre-order.

The next two will be the ESEE Laserstrike and Spyderco Yojimbo II. What a great year for knives...

Have you been to the Orange Gun Club for any of the classes we put on there? You could see an original Grab N Stab FTF.

You guys need to stop bumping this thread, everytime I see "Grab n Stab" in the New Posts search its like rubbing salt in a wound...

Any idea on a date for the release, and have we narrowed down the price yet so I can decide if I'm buying 1 or 2?
