'Tis the season to rock your favorite Christmas tunes, but come December 26 we're all bound to be sick to death of the old classics that get worn to bare threads every year by radio stations and elevator speakers. Clearly, WT isn't about sticking with the crowd in any regard. Most of us are here because this is where excellence is found. That being said...

I'd like to know what music really takes you to the manger, especially those pieces that might be lesser known...or old classics rearranged & done differently. Please post links or embed video when possible.

Me...I tend to gravitate toward acapella arrangements. As the original instrument the human voice giving simultaneous form to word, melody and harmony is exhilarating to listen to when employed with skill. Anyway, below is the one that I listen to several times each year; it never gets old. This lady's voice has a way of piercing my soul, and this piece is downright intoxicating. So...enjoy, and do share your favorites.

A'ight...y'all are grinches. Fine--enjoy your elevator music, and I'll pull this sleigh myself. :glare:

I was reminded of this one by the radio this morning. I'd like to solo this one myself, but I'm pretty sure I'd never make it through in one piece.

Not specifically Christmas, but another favorite nonetheless:

Couple more...one repeat, but a little more voice-specific. Gotta love Maev...

Donno if y'all caught all the hype about this phenom, but this one performance moved me as much then as it does now. Not specifically a Christmas piece, but it's still all about Jesus. Enjoy.

I'm a traditionalist, as in a great work that's been with us for ~300 years. It's even better in the original German:

Worked in retail doing computer work during the holidays once - it will be decades before I appreciate Christmas music again.

*bump*

I had two folks die inside of a week, and both of their memorial services were in the last week with Sunday services unrelenting and Thanksgiving in the middle. Trying to find time has been...interesting. I just finished my prep for tomorrow, and I've been preaching through Ezekiel, which is chock full of judgment, condemnation and woes...still finding a way to the cross each week, but the words of this book are like a hammer. On the field of spiritual battle I feel like I've been reduced to little more than a pile of goo...so I figure I'm about ready for Christmas and a little bit of good cheer. Digging this thread up and listening to some of these has been like a much needed oasis. I pray y'all find at least a moment sometime in the next month with a clear path to the manger.

And there seems to be some new music on the Christian radio stations--things I haven't heard before. So in the spirit of the original thread, do post your favorites--especially the non-traditional.

And pray for your pastor...I always thought that was trite until I became one. Believe me--if he's at all like me, he needs it more than the air he's breathing.

Condolences and prayers Steve.

On the subject of Christmas music, A Mad Russian's Christmas is among my favorites.

If I want something more peaceful, Lindsey Stirling is a talented violinist who has a breathtaking rendition of Silent Night. Really touches the soul.

Neil Diamond may not be a Christian (he's Jewish, just FYI), yet he sings traditional religious-themed Christmas songs with as much passion as any Christian singer out there.

I'm another TSO fan. Heck, I have more options than many though. I can go to see Savatage, or I can go to see the Orchestra.

On a tangent, a group of friends and I had a good laugh one year when we decided we were going to see the Orchestra. Mary-Ellen, a friend's girlfriend (the rest of us were dateless geeks,) dressed in her best evening gown, and all of us dressed in dark suits. We put on sun-glasses and acted like Mary-Ellen and Jeremy's security detail. We had no idea what we were doing, but people moved out of our way, and we had a ball with our silliness.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

I've been working on these tracks since September.......I'm a bass player and almost everything on these tracks is a bass. 3 Kings is my favorite.....I recommend headphones.
O'come all ye faithful was done at 8am at a church praise band rehearsal....it's a little rough but I thought it got the idea of the arrangement across. Hope you like it....

i've already posted my songs earlier but i thought i would share something else that i do as a hobby, at Christmas, that some of you guys may enjoy. it doesnt exactly go with the overall theme of the forum but........ check out some of the videos from the past, if youre curious. dont pay too much attention to the 2011 video. i had a battle with my home owners association last year. it actually made national news. anyway, i stood my ground, fought them and ultimately won out in october.
