Soon it is time for the Fall Tulsa Gun Show. I am going with a loyal Lt. and all around good guy from my office. After the show, I want to show my appreciation for all his hard work with a truly memorable meal. Sound off, my local WT Brothers. Where do I need to make a reservation?

Well, there's the usual chains (Chili's, Outback, Longhorn, etc...) on 71st off of South 169.

Over around Sheridan and 51st (?) is a shopping center called The Farm with a decent German food restaurant called Margaret's run by a Polish woman - http://www.margaretsgermanrestaurant.com/

Peoria Ave has some alright stuff, a couple of sushi places that ain't bad, but my favorite is on 71st called Fugi's (the one on Peoria is not as good). In The Raw is on Peoria, it's not bad.

For good Indian food there is the India Palace on 6963 S Sheridan, just off of 71st http://indiapalacetulsa.net/.

For Mediterranean, there is Helen of Troy - 6670 S Lewis #101 (you can see it from the street).

Around here, Mexican is Mexican is Mexican... they are all the same, but still decent.

81st and Yale, just north of the intersection is a great restaurant called Mahogany's, the best steak and lobster bisque I have ever eaten (and its only 4 miles south of the fairgrounds). The funny thing is, this place is actually sharing a parking lot with a McDonalds! There's another great steak place called Flemings off of 61st and Lewis. There's a great fish place on Sheridan just north of Pine called the White River Fish Market if steak isn't your thing. In all honesty though, when its anniversary time I book Mahogany's because there isn't a better place to eat in Tulsa.

Check out Rib Crib if you want BBQ. There's a few in the area. One is 4 blocks east of the fairgrounds on Harvard. It's a fast table turner but the BBQ is good. At Andolini’s, they take pizza seriously, about 2 miles due west of the grounds on 15th/Cherry St. It's a good show to watch them make your pizza. Ron's hamburger and Chili is another favorite Tulsa chain that's well worth visiting. One is 1 mile east of the grounds on Sheridan in one of my old neighborhoods.

This is all a big help. I avoid chains when I can, and was confident that some of the "locals" could tip me to a good steak or some quality BBQ!

Mahogany is good but be prepared for sticker shcok when you get your bill. It is good but it ain't cheap heck it is barely in the reasonable category price wise.

Longhorn is excellent. Ate at the one in OKC last night. It is far easier on the wallet and IMHO just as good as Mahogany. Also Longhorn is NOT a Hal Smith restaurant.

We like Longhorn a lot. I have heard that places like Fleming's are only a little better than places like Longhorn, Outback, etc. What is your thought? I have been to up scale places before, and while the food good, the main difference always seemed to be in presentation and atmosphere.

I would agree with presentation and atmosphere. There are only so many food suppliers out there. Ben E Keith is the numero uno in this part of the USA. Smith restaurants are some of my favorites but they have not been shown to be 2A friendly based upon previous experiences.
