In some instances, a good cup of coffee is better than good whiskey, any personal favorites you brew yourself?

One of mine is Don Francisco Colombian, the French roast is second. Its normally available in chain grocery stores, so availability is a huge plus.

Any you've had that just make getting out of bed and going out in the cold more bearable?
And please, no chain coffee like starbucks (eeeegh) and the like.

No chain coffees? Why not? Starbucks Christmas coffee they come out with every holiday season is awesome. I buy two or three bags of beans and put them in the freezer.

Well, my take on it is if you can make it out in the sticks it counts. I hate buy by the cup coffee, but Ill give on the beans and brew yourself.

Starbucks is terrible coffee. The fact that you store your beans in the freezer and can't tell the difference is proof of that. As far as beans bought at a grocery store, Id have to go with the organic Peruvian beans from sprouts. The best cup I've ever had was made from Chiapas beans from a local roaster.

Favorite is REAL Jamaica Blue Mountain. Stupid expensive, but an awsome treat every once in a while. Regular coffee is not really my favorite, much prefer double or triple espresso.

REAL Jamaica Blue Mountain, an awsome treat, yes it is
Lower on price scale - Dunkin Donuts dark roast beans, ok to good.
My favorite when I can get it is Real Kona Coffee, not Kona Blend.

I didn't say I can't tell the difference, but even frozen starbucks christmas is better than anything normally found in grocery stores.

Never had Kona or Jamaican, although I would like to.

Espresso is awesome.

Blue Mountain (I know a guy that I can get if for cheap ) or Blue Horse Kona.

I agree with Blue Mountain or Kona, but for every day I use Eight O'Clock Columbian. I buy the whole beans and grind them fresh for each pot of coffee.

The secret to good coffee is to use enough coffee. Test it with a spoon. Put the coffee in a cup, and stand a spoon up straight in it. Let go of the spoon. If the spoon falls over, you didn't use enough coffee.

I've written before of my approval of French Market Coffee (http://www.frenchmarketcoffee.com/) with Chicory. The added chicory reduces caffeine by displacing java, and chicory is also good for blood sugar, digestion, and some other stuff. (For some reason I prefer French Market brand over CDM, Cafe' du Monde brand.)

I do like mine with cream or even the heavier-brand soy milks. Do not put rice milk in there, too watery.

Use the cold press "toddy" method to brew up a can of concentrated coffee at a time and then put it in the icebox. Good quality for 3 weeks, before which time you and your family will have consumed it.

There's a guy just down the road from me who roasts coffee for some of the restaurants and a few retail customers here. His Tanzanian Peaberry is my favorite. He also lets me buy beans from him for cheap and roast them myself.

I usually just French press the coffee, or use a stovetop macchinetta. If nobody is watching, sometimes I just make "cowboy coffee" and save some effort.

I have to start out and say I LOVE COFFEE! Hot, cold, expensive, cheap, day-old found in my truck cup holder etc.... Through my travels and thirst for great coffee I have to say more than anything else freshly roasted beans make the biggest difference in the taste. I have bought very expensive coffee from grocery stores (who knows how old) and the cheapest beans freshly roasted is WAY BETTER! Look for local roasters in your area and that will start you on the path of a great cup of coffee. Look for fresh roasted beans that still have the shimmer of the coffee bean oil all over them and still warm 8). Man I need a cup just talking about it!

I've found the coffee machine to make more of a difference than the coffee itself. I'm happy with my Krups espresso machine and Cafe Pilon arabica coffee. A mug of sweet espresso keeps me going in the morning.

I use a $300 technivorm moccamaster drip brew and I still think the fresh roasted bean is most important.
My list of importance:
Fresh roasted bean #1
The brewing technique/machine #2
The water used in the brewing #3

Kopi Luwak made with the french press using only filtered water.

I don't drink alcohol and I've never done a drug in my life, good coffee however is my vice.

I make coffee the same way whether I'm in the woods with a campfire or at home on the stove... in a home made percolator. At home I use cold filtered water, but I prefer the woods where I get to enjoy the stuff that runs from the snow at the tops of the mountains.
Now if I could only find a good, preferable American bean to use, I'd be set.

I have a Keurig machine at home. Right now we've been drinking the Green Mtn brand espresso.

The Keurig makes every cup of coffee the perfect cup of coffee.

Whenever possible I'll take espresso over coffee. I've got a machine at home and buy whole beans from either of these roasters. Amazing stuff.

Any Kona blend seems to be a vast improvement over a regular coffee.

I have been banned from making coffee (what my co-workers refer to as "tar") from most places I have worked at... on my own time, I like Boyers Rocky Mountain Thunder (roasted locally). I grew up on expresso and cannot grasp the concept of "weak" coffee.

I buy 2lb bags of Blue Mountain coffee at Costco for $10 / bag. Is that "stupid expensive" ?? Its my daily cup'a joe and it has spoiled me to any of the "lesser" coffees. Starbucks? Not so much. Although, I do like the Dunkin Donuts stuff if I have to have a cup outside the house.

You have to remember that there are varying levels of Jamaica Blue Mountain. Top Tier Jamaica Blue Mountain is about $60 a pound.

I get the beans at HEB both blend and pure (which is quite pricey). That's a Texas grocery chain. Don't know how far their area extends. You might try their website. They might sell online, but I'm not sure.

You might try coffeeforless.com. I buy Keurig cups from them and they have a 5 or 10% off sale quite often and free shipping if you order at least $50 (or maybe $100. Can't remember right now). They have Kona blend (although they seem to be out a lot). I'm not sure if they have pure Kona or not.
