Got fish?

My wife and daughter were out working on the boat today. When they came home a bit ago, they told me some unlikely tale involving having to go out fishing instead of finishing up on the boat because there were some sockeye coming through.

Then they told me to get out the vaccuum sealer, and to get busy...

Well, I didn't get to catch 'em, but I'm gonna eat 'em:

Took the kids fishing today. Didn't catch squat.

But we still got fish in the freezer from the last couple of catches, but not sockeye. Looks good, sir!

I used to shoot halibut sometimes! But I ended up wasting some of the best bits of the fish, the cheeks, too many times, so I switched to a harpoon.

Love catching them, hate eating them. I grew up in a fishing town; virtually everybody was connected in some way to the commercial fishing industry. We caught fish all summer and into the fall to fill our freezer, and then we ate fish all winter long. The first night we'd have a big barbequed filet, which wasn't too bad. The second night there would be left over filet plus something else, the third night my dad would often make up a "salmon loaf" with the leftovers, and if we were especially lucky we'd get salmon helper the night after that. Plus fish sandwiches in our lunches throughout. I'll still eat salmon if it is put in front of me just to be polite (as long as it is cooked decently), but bleeeeeeccchhhh!!!!!

Gimme red meat any day of the week.

No catfish Eric? Down here it's Flathead, Channel, and Blue Catfish. For scaled we have White Bass, Largemouth, Bluegill, Crappie, Red Drum, Speckled Trout, and Flounder. We also have a multitude of panfish species. I reccomend all but the Speckled Trout, it has to be fixed while fresh. It doesn't freeze well.

......okay for the all fish trading being discussed, I will offer up Lake trout fillet (Mac)....naturally grazed on mice shrimp, harvested from the crystal clear depths of the largest freshwater lake east of the Mississippi. The diet, environment, and conditions these fish grow in make for an incredible culinary delight......what else of the finned species do we have out there for trade. (and I'm only interested in scaled fish).

I have a 2/3 acre pond right in front of my house. It could be fished out easily so we only eat those game fish with mortal injuries. The exception is Bluegills. I have taught the kids that that if you fillet a fresh caught fish right, it will swim away, not far but swim. PETA be damned :)
