From what I know, Yerrington is a nice little town. But it is pretty much desert if you like that.

It is not far from Reno and Cabelas! Also Sportsman's Warehouse, Scheels, Costco and the usual big town stuff. Locally, there is a wildlife refuge just outside of town with Mule Deer, Turkey and bird hunting as well as good bass ponds. If you are into varmint/predator hunting there is a lot of that too. Trout fishing in the rivers is good and Walker Lake is not far away. It is desert, but a lot of agriculture (mostly alphalfa and hay) and it can get pretty cold in winter. Maybe an hour and a half from Lake Tahoe. Not far away in Carson City is Tussey Custom Guns for your 1911 needs. If you want to hunt Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, etc., most of that hunting can be accesses in a two day drive at most. Some guys love to go to Kalifornya's Surprise Valley ground squirrel hunts in the spring.

Downside is that Prostitution is legal in Lyon County where Yerington is located, with bordello's firmly established there. Gambling and other vices are one of the mainstays of the state ecomomy. For a cop, you will deal with a lot of drugs, mostly meth, and gangs are moving into Nevada, though mostly in Vegas and Reno, with Carson City experiencing the problem now.

I am next door in Douglas County, Minden/Gardnerville area, if anyone is interested and has questions, PM me and I will offer what info I can.

That is a really nice town, rural Nevada is completely different from Vegas.

Smith Valley which is right around the corner from Yerington, is IMHO one of the nicest places in NV. Very lush oasis...in the middle of a desert.
