Within your home, Buckshot please ! Slugs have tremendous penetration normally, and will pass through internal walls with ease.
Outside of your home, if range and accuracy are required, then a slug would be ok.
Along time ago, I fired at a wooden pile, - the type layed under a railway line. It was on it's edge, offering us maybe eight inches of solid wood.
9mm 2Z ball ( very hot ) and .45 ball stopped within the wood. A slug from a 12g Mossberg, whistled through no problem ! And so did several others ! It wasn't a fluk.

Reduced recoil buck 00 like the Federal Tactical 132 is good stuff. At in home ranges the shot pattern will practially be a solid mass anyway. As Anthony implies, I'm sure your neighboors will appreciate you NOT using slugs.
