Hello from Houston. I am trying to find a way to give back to this online community that I get so much from. I have found that I read more than I post, and comment on more existing posts than I start.
With this in mind, and a commitment I made to do some charitable acts, I am offering, on a limited, first-come-first-served basis, to REVIEW and WORD-SMITH any one or two page resume.
My credentials are simple. I've searched for and found good paying work about every 2-3 years since 1988. I've offered to do the resume editing for friends and colleagues in the past, with good results. No promises here, but I will do my level best.
What I need from you:
1. A resume to start with (gotta have something to base improvements on) since I'm better at giving precise input with a starting point.
2. Your target industry or target position or target company...i.e. something that gives me a clue as to your target audience.
3. Any other relevent details. The more the better. Keywords and buzzwords are good.
4. Take anything you've done, and can rightly claim an improvement, and take some portion of it worded into numbers, if possible: "...implemented change in production routing that resulted in 30% savings in man-hours per shift" or "increased sales to new accounts by 25% in first 90 days" or "made arrests at 25% higher rate AND those resulted in double the convictions of the previous Dept Head"...you get the message, right? It has to be real and there has to be a story with details behind each fact (so you can use it in a phone or face-to-face interview)
I am NOT a recruiter, or trying to sell anyone anything. I do, however, have a wide range of contacts, and will also do a "best-effort" to help you find connections if my personal network happens to yield a path to pursue. 20 years in electronics manufacturing in the SW USA, mostly Texas, if anyone cares to take me up on this.
Anyway, I suspect there might be more work than I can handle, so please REPLY to this so all can see, then PM me so I can give you my email address so you can send items #1 thru #4.
I will take on the 1st 10 requests and advise later what else I can offer.

I can always use help spiffing up my resume. I'll defer to those that are unemployed but if you have an opening, I'd appreciate the help.

Unemployed or underemployed, no matter, early bird gets the worm. Fire away, Jack. But that is a worthy idea, so...
GUYS n GALS: If you are unemployed, please state that in your PM, and I will balance the work giving you priority if and when possible.

Guys take this oppurtunity, I paid $150 to have mine worked up, it saved my a$$ when I needed it. That is a good thing you doing and will be returned many times over.

Here are some ideas for those of you who want to tweak your own resume, or help others. Keep in mind that this stuff doesn't work for everyone, and it is not unique, but a representation of modern resume formats. It is a combination of FUNCTIONAL, CHRONOLOGICAL with a focus on ACCOMPLISHMENTS and KEY SKILL SETS. The longer you've been working the easier it is to do.

GCB,
I'm currently employed, but working a contracting job (electronics) in Iraq, so those can always go away - especially with the cuts coming. While I have a resume together, it is 2+ pages and there is a bunch of technical/military jargon that I'd like some help to streamline for civilian employers. Any help would be appreciated, but please get the folks who are looking for employment first.
This is a great service you're doing, and one of the things I love about this forum - people taking care of their own. My hat is off to you, sir. Thank you, Jay

here is my resume prepared by my current/previous company (their arrangement not mine)
they include this in their proposals sent out to clients
had to converted from word (in the office) to text (to post online) to get under attachment size
so the formatting is screwed up
I have another one which is my personal resume that I am working on - will email directly

Glad to help, Krav. It's quite a different workout from weights and lead-slingin', and yet another good reason to keep the TV off! The headlines are depressing. Good resumes do make a difference. However, let us all remember that a strong, business network is worth more than any piece of paper. If you have a good network of contacts, the resume is a formality.
