Does anyone have any experience with a Moro Barong? It seems to be a rather wickedly effient weapon.

ml howard, I have some experience with the Moro Barong. We practice with them in our Filipino Martial Arts Stick fighting classes. The classical Barong features a leaf like shaped blade measuring from 18-23 inches, by about 3" wide. There exists no guard, but it has a hooked turned down handle which serves to secure the heavy blade in the hand and helps to resist a swing through motion when making hard chopping and slashing strokes. It is used in Corto (short strikes akin to a boxers jab) and Largomano (large or Long strikes akin to sword slashes) movements. The Moro Barong has been prized for its ability to sever an arm or leg with a single blow. Yes...it is a devastating weapon.
