View Full Version : It was one I wanted in High School...

As I grow old gracefully (I like to think anyway) I am buying things I could not afford as a younger man. I wanted one of these in High School but was uninsurable. So I schlepped to school in a 1966 Mustang wishing it was a Corvette. (and yes, I knew I was blessed with the Mustang) I am not really a Chevy Guy, but the L-82 motor is actually a pretty nice piece of work. Four bolt rods, "pink" no less, forged crank, 9.0 compression ratio...for the era a good engine.

The car I wanted to buy as a kid and couldn’t pull off was a Volkswagen Karmen Ghia that was for sale on my street. Why oh why could it not have been a corvette or a Porche or something nice?

I would love to have an old ghia done up California style

NICE!!! But my body says forget it, your fat butt ain't getting in and out of that thing!:yikes::lol:
The one I had a chance to drive in the 70s felt like I was sliding down the street on a cafeteria tray.

I was drifting before people knew what to call it besides "An impending accident". Four speed small block with 1970's tech suspension...I get her sideways at will!

Good news is this has new Koni shocks, the F41 suspension package and poly bushings all around. For a huge car it handles surprisingly well.

The guy that ordered it in 1973 is our kind of man. Hottest small block engine available, four speed with the performance rear end, crank windows, no power steering, or brakes. My long suffering wife hates it. But man, it takes me back to my youth and you can't put a price on that.

Was that motor pulled/refreshed at some point?

That Corvette looks very clean! If that interior is stock, wow it was kept in great shape.
My parents had a karmann ghia before I was born. I have heard many stories that made me think it was a POS. Maybe just this one?

...... Four bolt rods, "pink" no less.....
All rods have two bolts, I am sure you mean four bolt mains.

Is that a ‘73?
My FAVORITE “old Vette.” Turned-up ass and Chrome rear bumper, but with the sleek poly front.
The white and tan is so sexy and classy!
And the Cobra KICKS ASS!!! My other “most favorite” old Ford.
That is one helluva stable.
Well done, Sir. Well done.
I tried to buy a light blue/white top/black interior ‘73 L-82 convertible from McJack’s several years ago. I was unsuccessful.
I ended up buying an every single option all-black ‘93 with 6 speed. Did elimination pipes, cold air, chip, etc. Really fun.
Had it for 3 years. Sold it and bought a ‘69 Cadillac DeVille Convertible; pale yellow, white interior, white top. 2 doors and as long as a Chevy Suburban. Daily drove and commuted in it. (I had just made Detective and was on SWAT, making more money than I could spend. And the 1st wife was making more than me!)
LOVED that car.
This is my daily. 2018 2SS. Special ordered with every performance option. Have since added the wheels and 285/315 tires,, a ported IM and TB, CAI, cat black exhaust and a mild tune…

Nice. And yes, I meant mains! The Cobra is a factory built Backdraft out of South Africa. It was a 50th birthday present from my long suffering wife.
