I'm volunteer emt for a rural ems service - the other night we had a call 72 yom , chest pain and sob - lengthy cardiac HX -

On scene pt is seated at kitchen table , ashen, sweaty, panting , displaying Levine's sign ( right hand clenched over the left chest ) with the pt stating 'I'm going to die'. when pt says they're going to die believe them ...

We scoop the pt get a quick BP in ambulance and pop a nitro and 4 baby aspirin in him and off we go - the other emt and emt from fire dept are in back with me driving. They get the
EKG set up, out of scope for us mere basics but there is clear ST elevation - call STEMI (heart attack) alert to the hospital try to get Intercept from city FD and city Ambulance service to get some paramedics - no joy.

So long story longer I'm doing 75 , about as fast as I want to go in an ambulance the size of the Nimitz , down a 2 lane state highway in the dark, lights and sirens on full. People are being cool and pulling to the side.
It's rolling farm ground out here I'm just about to the top of a hill when - VROOM this big ass bro dozer truck whips past me like I'm in park. Cuts way closer than he needs to in front of me, not a mile further on he turns
onto another secondary road as is gone. Doom on me a little for not watching the mirrors but WTFO! Some times I wish I had an idiot seeking missile I could launch ...

On the plus side - straight to the cath lab and pt was home mowing his lawn 3 days later

I’ve seen plenty of idiot seeking missiles. For the idiot that is passing while unsafe, the missiles I’ve seen tend to deploy at the crest of a hill and take the form of an 18-wheeler in the oncoming lane…

Seriously tho, BLESS YOU for being a rural, volunteer EMT. You’re doing God’s work.

I came closest to getting killed on code runs than in any other situation--one time two close ones in under five minutes. And it was not unknown for asshats to pull in front of us to slow us down just because.

Idiot Seekers would no doubt be hard-pressed to select a recipient for metal injection in today's target-rich environment. Sensor design would be a nightmare...
Check 6 and plan for a "-Winder" in the lips" (Face shot in earth-bound terms)

AND you know this same maggots would be the first to complain if someone did it to them! I just want a button that would flatten all 4 tires on their vehicle!

My favorite when running Code3 was the panicked driver that would lock ‘em up in front of me. Tops was when one broad slid and blocked both lanes. Almost wrecked a brand new Fury III on that one.

If there ever is such ordinance developed and deployed it should be named " KAREN ".......

A Mask Seeking Missile would cover most undesirable people.

I RARELY turn on lights or sirens anymore (its left to the officer to decide) because folks act like idiots when they come on. I get the occasional called in complaint for erratic/fast driving and once had a guy follow me to the call ( he found he had somewhere else to be when I deassed with a suppressed rifle and plate carrier... and he heard the shots) . But I HATE running lights and siren, when the complaints come in I just tell the boss "When the fucktards remember what to do when the lights come on, Ill use em, until then, not very likely"

I pull over given time and ability. I've almost had morons not stop and nearly hit me when I slow down to pull over and stop and get pissed at me over it!

The only problem I would encounter might be cost and the necessity of constant resupply.

Last week I let a rookie dead-head back to base from a run. She's never driven the truck outside of the parking lot and she's never been behind the wheel of anything close to that big, so she is -- wisely -- keeping it under the speed limit.

So this bozo in a BMW with out-of-state plates zips past us and *honks* at us.

Out here the bad boys with the lifted pickups are generally smart enough to realize we could have their grandma in the back. When we get this kind of trouble, it is almost invariably a BMW, an Audi, or -- wait for it -- an electric vehicle.
