I have always been into fitness in one form or another for my entire life. Hockey, surfing, bodyboarding, snowboarding, hiking, running.... I have always mixed it up because I get board alittle, it’s just in my nature.... One of the things that have stayed with me over the years was riding mountain bikes. It can be fun yet punishing but rewarding just like anything else you set out to do and accomplish... Just throwing that out there for guys looking for another alternative to something other then running or rucking that can add a bit of fun to your fitness....

I do road biking, but agree with you; I’ve also always done something fitness-related as a hobby. Averaging 160+bpm over 3+ hours... It’s great at building both leg and core strength and monster cardio. I can speak from experience that it translates directly into hiking fitness, just need to make sure you also maintain upper body and core strength.
I’m also planning on picking up a mountain bike this year.

For sure bro, check out yt they sell direct and there is a ton of savings there... Especially now, these things are valued their weight in gold. But can’t go wrong with specialized.... Like a dumb ass I decided I needed an enduro bike for trail riding, talk about legs.... I remember when 20#s was out of question for buying a bike for climbing... Mine sits smoking dry at 31#s, it a battle tank. Don’t do what I did... Five rides this week and I feel like I’ve gotten my ass kicked every day....:). Not everyone is into torturing themselves...
2021 YT Capra race, it’s a beast... I have a Sedona trip planned I’m almost thinking about breaking my old school Rocky Mountain for the trip....

I’m blessed because where I live I’m centrally located within 20miles of some of the best riding and weather probably in the us.... It works out and supports my obsessions....

Never got into mountain bikes, but did quite a bit of road cycling a few years back. Have been out of it for few years now, as my rural part of the world involves lots of narrow country roads w/ no shoulders and lots of agricultural machinery and semi traffic. Do a lot of rough ground hiking and run sprints up my rifle range these days...61223

I like it still but I bounce back and forth between different stuff. I have no desire to enter races I just have fun really.... I keep a mental note of my progress and that’s about as crazy as I get with it....

Look into what are being called Monster Cross bikes. Basically a drop bar mountain bike, beefier than a gravel bike, wider tires than a cyclocross bike, pretty much a go almost anywhere bike. I’m looking into building one up.
In my area I get more use out of road bikes, but something with wider tires is nice.

Yeah it’s good and low impact, my dads hips are hammered from long term sports usage. Riding bikes is all he can do now and I’m happy he’s still able to do that.... I’m tired of running, I would rather ride bikes....
