How long is it expected to stay that way
in your area?

Are you gtg with keeping your house warm?

I don't miss true winters: block heaters, ice inside the windows, tools that snap off when you're reefing on them, trees snapping and shattering, frostbite while running or while tossing wood through the basement window to feed the dragon that heats the house.

The image that remains in my mind is Lake Michigan frozen and broken as far as the eye could see, with an ice-colored sky down to the horizon.

Taking that first breath where all the hair in your nostrils freezes.......yep, screw that y'all . I spent a little over a year in a place where it felt like there was nothing between me and the north pole but a barbed wire fence, never again ;)

Only advantage is it's easier to track prey in the snow.

In weather like that its vital to cover your mouth and nose to keep cold air out. Scarfs, face masks, balaclavas and the like. It chills your core exponentially.

Sounds like Minot ND. Only thing between Minot and the North Pole was a barbed wire fence and it was down. ND helped me to appreciate what REAL winter feels like and how crazy people can get when they're cooped up and have lots of booze.

LOL, I would rather track them in mud.

Temp this morning on the porch thermometer was 32F and that is too cold. My citrus made through it through with out problems. I need to go out and pick some.

Currently 25 here, but we're expecting to go down to -3 by nightfall. The wood stove is cranking and with a fan on it the living room is a very comfortable 70. Goes through a lot of wood to maintain it, though!

Kids are home from school so they helped shovel the 2 inches of snow we got last night and put out salt on the driveway. I'm hoping the "snow squalls" we're expecting as the temperature drops don't require serious work to clear - I can't seem to find the keys to the ATV with the plow blade on it!

It might seem funny but shovel frequently. Even if its still snowing. Less stress on the body and you are outside for shorter durations. Don't forget the snow dams that can form at the end of the driveway either lol. During storms when we would get feet and feet of snow we would even get up and night and do it. Neighbors thought we were crazy... still they had 3 to 4 feet of snow to shovel at once and we were building snow men.

That's what we do. It's easier to shovel a foot of snow three times a day than three feet of snow all at once.

Also, if deep snow get's a layer of freezing rain on top of it, it's easy to use a snow shovel to cut it into blocks, flip onto the hard frozen side and slide it off of your driveway over the still frozen snow. Save's you the time of lifting and carrying.

Intersting day - went to stand by / work remote at the Ambulance Quarters - we got a call for 80yoam with chest pains and possible frost bite to his hands

We get there the poor guy was found by his neighbor in the snow by his back door - no idea how long he was there but it was a while. Neighbor is a good old marine - had the pt stripped down by time we got there with the heat cranked and was putting warm blankets from the dryer on the guy to try and warm him,

he was gray ashen in the face and his hands were navy haze grey pain in the chest radiating to back and neck - HX of cadriac trouble

Good thing we got a BP before popping a nito - bp was in 90's

I'm just a basic so reading the 12 lead is out of bounds but that wasn't a normal sinus rythm

We couldn't even give a dose of high flow diesel on the way to the hospital

This cold is no joke

This morning we had 10 degrees and light snow. By Monday we are predicted to have 66 degrees and thunder showers. Welcome to southern Illinois weather.

I grew up in Iowa, don't miss it at all. Especially, 1 November-about 15 March.
