Ok so starting to get this pinned down as long as we have the commitment level we should be able to get it on the calendar for spring/early summer. My thoughts on this is we'll do a gentleman's style course, without live fire, that will focus on self aid, aid, casualty evac, and down/disabled mobility and weapon manipulations.

This will be heavily medical and will be highly beneficial for even those who dont expect battlefield injury, for those who keep track Sua did surgery on me at his breakfast table and I documented it with pics. This will be that relevant of a class but I need real numbers for a weekend class.

I need a med refresher and the better half needs med training we're getting married in October we dont have any other major travel planned this year so all we need is dates and cost.

It looks like I will hosting this course on June 29/30 in the Kirksville, MO area at a private location. Sua and Greg will be instructing. Greg will have the class sign up posted in the near future with additional information, reporting instructions, etc.

The response on here and Facebook has been really strong. I will be posting the class link in this thread and on Facebook so it will likely fill quickly. This is a boutique class that's not on the normal menu that will be heavily medical and will cover more than just GSW, pressure dressing, and TQ use.

At one point there was talk of a June Tac Medicine course in the Kansas CIty Missouri area conducted by Greg and perhaps Sua. I recently noticed that there are no medical courses being offered by SI. Is this just a matter of instructor availability or is there a change in course offerings? A tactical medicine course would be beneficial imho.

This class will happen but we are probably going to need to push back the date. Sua was out of pocket on the dark continent until a couple days ago so we didn't have a complete class description that we could post. This will be a boutique class and not a standard offering and will go deep into immediate aid for Trauma as well as demo some rarely seen field medicine.

With the current and emerging threats that are facing our world today simply relying on calling 911 and keeping yourself, or a loved one alive until “help” arrives is NOT always the option. This course teaches everything from pre-mission packing/planning and medical threat assessment to providing care in austere environments where the next level of care may be days away.

Students will learn the many differences of providing care in a tactical/wilderness setting. Whether it’s assessing a sprained ankle or treating a critically injured patient, students leave understanding how to provide care as a member of a team or as the sole medical provider in an austere setting where improvisation is key. Students should expect to be challenged mentally and physically.

Couldn't get off for this one. Got sent to county training on Saturday instead, 3 whole hours. At least it was taught by some .mil including the doc. But LEO (all two of us) got separated out because it was deemed unnecessary for us to know anything beyond TQs, wound packing, moving off the X and such.

Never mind the fact that any call I'm on may be 20-40 minutes from Aid or backup. Still, it was a refresher--I didn't know or had forgotten that a CAT is a one-use only item--so have a spare for practice.

Next time I'll be ronin, and get to do it right.

1. If used in the field, it's gonna get stuff on it, and the windlass is gonna get screwed down tight. And conditions allowing, you'll Sharpie the time onto the white retaining tab.
2. Repeated practice use frays the band, and makes it harder to deploy one-handed and to thread through the D-ring.

If you use it in the field, it is gone anyway - the EMTs take it to the hospital with the patient and even if you are going there for some reason, too, you will not care about getting your (possibly icky and written on) TQ back and neither will anyone else.
So that is self-correcting ;)


The big thing to avoid is constant training use which stretches and frays the band and puts a lot of stress on the plastic (for CATs) windlass. You don't want to have the windlass break the one time you use it for real.
Have a training TQ and a "real" one.

If you dont have pristine TQs for real use and practice TQs to train with you're being cheap and stupid. This is life saving equipment that's inexpensive. Dont risk your life to save 20 bucks.

Not the same, ALERRT is 16 hrs of medical and active shooter training mixed together. For this class we focused on 16hrs immediate aid, self aid, buddy aid, and longer term care (hrs/days).

If I squeezed TASI and TMCO together into two days, that would be an approximation of ALERRT 2.
