Howdy, any member here enrolled in one of the christian healthcare sharing plans? If so are you happy with them? I'm a retired LEO from CA and moved out of state when I retired. Through my city, I have one healthcare plan which is Blueshield PPO. When I retired 4 years ago, it was $850 a month for myself and my wife. The plan has done nothing but increase every year, and for 2019 I'm looking at 2 grand a month for health insurance....Which is nuts. Looking for some type of an alternative. Thanks

We do it. Like many things it's a compromise. The biggest issue is that we've been treated as a "not insured" by Drs. As in when you have insurance and a claim is made, and that claim it's not covered, you pay a discounted rate. The same rate the insurance company would pay. With the Christian Healthcare Ministries plan we get no discount and pay full price. In the few years we've been using it we've never met our deductible so I have nothing to offer on what the actual company is like to deal with.

No experience with it though I’ve heard the commercials on the radio. DD, that sucks about the cost, I guess that is one good thing about my agency. If we honorably retire we get to retain our health insurance as though still employed ( right now about $50.00 a month for the employee) until we qualify for Medicare . If that weren’t an option I would seriously look into it.

We've been using CHM for about 4 years now. Only issue we've had was when they didn't want to cover expensive supplements for my wife that were recommended by her doctor. They are very clear about NOT covering "alternative" or "homeopathic" treatments. Because these weren't prescription drugs they refused to cover them. I have several friends and family members who are members and I'm not aware of any problems. Thankfully, we haven't had any major issues or met the $500 minimum, either. As best I can tell CHM has a sterling reputation. Our family doctor is actually pretty enthusiastic and gives us a pretty nice cash discount. He apparently has several patients who are members.

I use it. I make way too much money for government covered veterinary care, and refuse to fiance it for the non-producers. I usually pay cash for everything that isn't covered, but use the "non-insurance" for everything that is.

Someone asked for a link so here it is if anyone has an interest. Please feel free to delete if this isn't OK. https://www.chministries.org/default.aspx It's Christian Healthcare Ministries located in Barberton, OH. I understand there are some false links that lead to insurance companies trying to mislead people. CHM is not insurance and is not sold or represented by any insurance company.

My family has had Samaritan Ministries for about 3 years. My hernia surgery was 300 dollars out of pocket. The baby cost nothing for perinatal care, ultrasound, and delivery; any up front costs were reimbursed. For a family of 6, we pay 550 a month. The only other hurdle, your minister has CVto sign a form stating you are members in good standing and not under Church discipline.

I very heavily considered it, and would, had I not chosen a plan from work. The plan from work costs more, but I feel offers better coverage.
